  1. 100% agree. The one they chose is awful. Proportions are weird and it’s like the fractal logo from the rivalry jerseys (which I hate).

  2. Fo sho. His proposal is sick. Think he would have won if he went with more than 1 Bison.

  3. I feel like we got lied too about the buffalo renders lol these new ones are pathetic. They’re so bad I wouldn’t trust this guy to design a kid’s birthday invitation

  4. 100% agree. Their idea for the statues stinks

  5. From his site: “The Buffalo Bills bison monument should be a landmark that stands the test of time, not one tied to the fabrication trends of a specific era. A realistic and detailed bronze sculpture matures with the environment, becoming a universally cherished symbol for generations of fans.”

Agreed. His version slaps and reflects the spirit of the community.

  6. Absolutely. Ask 1000 Bills fans which style is preferred and it may be a runaway.

Its not a lost in space thing…

  7. Part of me thinks that the polygonal design is half because it may be harder for drunk people to try and climb.

  8. I hate (HATE) the big red metal stripes on the mock render that sit outside and off the main design…. ugh

  9. This is like a bigger version of the ones at the junction between the 190-90.

I think the ones they selected are kind of ok…but this is much better.

  10. I’m gonna go against the apparent hive on this one. I like the design they are going with- bull, cow, and calf is cool and the ability to light up and breathe steam will be cool. It’s unique – I’ve never seen a statue do either of those things. I’ve seen a million bronze statues before.

  11. While I’m often skeptical of classical romanticization in design (ie realism being the most elegant solution) the winning design definitely falls into trendy and kitsch pitfalls of aesthetics and materiality and I share Mike’s insistence on the graceful aging of materials/design. His consideration of the edge condition was very impressive to me (the prairie grass and boulder option being especially interesting solutions). I do think a more contemporary/abstract design using a metal like corten steel would have been more appropriate and timeless.

  12. I like his work and it sounds like he was a finalist, and while I feel that it probably would’ve looked wonderful, I feel the Bills going with the multiple statues is the right choice over a single one. I don’t see anything that states he would’ve planned for more than one Bison sculpted. I’m curious if time, amount of sculptures needed, or price came into play here. Maybe if the Bills decided to do one Bison, he would’ve been the favorite.

As for the choice they went with, I’m reserving judgement to see how they have everything set up before casting judgement.

  13. I like it much better, but his proposal was just a photoshopped bison in grass.  He should’ve showed us what it looks like rendered in bronze with real light reflecting off the bronze.

  14. Not only is the design gorgeous and detailed but the proposal was made with so much thought, intention and passion it’s a damn shame this didn’t make it.

  15. Agreed. The ones they chose look like they’re trying WAY too hard to be “trendy” yet still failing miserably. They look like something you’d see in a mall in the late 80’s.

  16. Good luck changing it. They are already building the statues and have a good chuck done. Go to the university if you want a picture with a bronze statue. This whole fucking project everyones got a complaint. Add it to the list of shit a small vocal group of keyboard warriors hate and stay home from the games if your that upset.
