Jordan Love on Matt LaFleur’s Contract Extension: “Being able to keep Matt around is awesome, and I’m very happy about that… It’s a lot to learn a whole new system and new terminology. As a Quarterback, being in the same system, the same terminology, it definitely helps me out.”

  1. This is all very true for the offense. And hopefully love gets more responsibility

Hopefully mlf can get game management under control

  2. matt needs to do his part now. he’s had the current team for 3 years and it’s about time they go somewhere

  3. I have no super bowl expectations while Matt is coach. I don’t think he’s bad and the pickings may have been thin this off-season, but he’s just an okay coach capable of bringing us to the wildcard round until a much better team beats us in an embarrassing way that shows coaching failure.

  4. Doesn’t matter, MLF got paid regardless if he can handle head coaching responsibilities or not he’s fighting Mike Sherman for records now and completely holding the true talent of the team back.

What would anyone expect him to say

  5. It was always the most logical move to keep him and I’m glad they did. That being said, it’s now his time to prove it and his seat will only get hotter with every loss.

  6. I still can’t tell if my issues with the offense are:
    – because jordan love is not a great QB (he’s good, but not great)
    – because the o-line sucked so love didn’t really have a chance to show he was a great QB
    – if matt la fluer is a bad offensive play caller, and love was just doing what he was told

  7. The way I see it, LaFleur has 2 major issues that bite us in the ass and prevent us from winning games. The first is he really struggles when the run game can’t get going. Doesn’t matter what part of the game it is. Could be the 1st quarter, could be the 4th, the moment the run game doesn’t get going he hesitates to let Love take over. We saw towards the end of last year when LaFleur’s hand was basically forced with the state of our OL that Love can move the ball effectively in the short game. He just struggles to trust Love.

The second issue is the confidence problem he has when his team has a lead. If you’ve somehow scored 21+ points on them in the first half, why can’t you put up more than a FG in the second? During that last playoff game against the Bears he went from having the offense run plays from under center to like 90% of the plays out of the shotgun. It was the most predictable thing ever and any half decent DC is going to be able to adjust and decimate. How many times did that happen last year?

I believe both of these are fixable but it’s going to come down to Matt recognizing this and addressing. If we’re going to give up a lead in the 4th quarter, can it at least be a product of the whole offense getting stopped rather than going three and out a couple times in a row because you got Love in the shotgun with Jacobs next to him.

  8. I know it’s totally different coaching but some nice guys finish first like Mark Johnson. I wanted little Matt fired in the worst way. Now since we are stuck with him I’m hoping for a Super Bowl not for him to implode which means another wasted season. Come on Matt learn over the off season how to handle pressure.

  9. Well what exactly is he supposed to say?…. “Wtf you guys doing MLF is an asshat why would you resign this guy did you not watch our last game?!”

  10. MLF needs to make some real adjustments to his coaching. Like talk to your kicker, run the ball, let love air it out more, and game management

  11. Lafleur needs to trust Love more. He started to do that part way through the season, I forget which game. But he needs to stick with that. Let the man throw down field! He isn’t a kid any more. If he fails he fails. But he’s never going to reach his true potential playing on a short leash.

  12. We play down to our competition, don’t beat playoff teams and consistently choke in the playoffs. Why is he still coach of this team?
