Pirates declined to listen to the Yankees pretty quickly

  1. Not entirely sure who would be attractive enough in the system to warrant this offer. Yankees always overvalue their prospects anyway hit this would be another level.

  2. Dont the Pirates know that they are just supposed to accept the “four top prospects*” the Yankees offered and be happy to be able to interact with such a storied franchise?

*Are the four top prospects in the room with us?

  3. Since this is in the past and never even transpired into anything at all, I guess anyone could make up any story to get clicks

  4. Those prospects could be anything! They could even be a Paul Skenes! You know how badly we’ve wanted one of those!

  5. “We would like your proven generational talent, here are four half-scratched-off lottery tickets”

    Seems fair

  6. Wow! They were prepared to offer that? The Pirates should have considered themselves lucky to be offered over-hyped prospects from their generational talent.

  7. Skenes is the real deal. I wouldn’t trade him for anything right now. They could probably get just as much for him a year and a half before he hits free agency. If the Pirates have become contenders by then they can keep him and try to make a run. If not they can get those 4 prospects and build for the future again.

  8. MLB pipeline has their top 4 prospects ranked 32, 79, 82 and 94.

2 pitchers that profile as a #2 and #3 at best along with a future SS and 2B.

PIT only answers the phone for a team with a top 5 prospect and at least 1-2 additional top 50 prospects.

  9. Good move by the Pirates, opening day notwithstanding. Guy is a generational talent right now, and the kind of player you build around.

  10. Skenes warrants MLB ready pitching and positional players. I can certainly understand why the Pirates refused to listen.

  11. Feels like not much of a story. Yankees did what they should do and made an offer just in case the Pirates GM is doped up or dying or something. The Pirates very obviously said no not interested. Why people are using this to mock the Yankees I have no idea. I’m guessing the same people insulting and mocking would also insult and mock if the Yankees just never called anyone or tried to make any deals.

  12. I bet the Pirates wish that they took that offer!

Skenes is sitting on a 67.50 ERA on the season. smh.

  13. The Yankees offering four ‘top prospects’ is equivalent to me trying to buy a Ferrari with my life savings

  14. They did him a favor. Trading someone to the Yankees on their rookie deal is cruel and unusual punishment.

  15. He had one bad inning that was exacerbated by some defensive mishaps by his centerfielder and it’s the first day of the season. He’ll be fine.
