New York Mets Win Opening Day 2026 – Rico Brogna Episode 657

Opening day never gets old, especially when you can almost guarantee a Mets win. In a day where the Mets knocked out Paul Skenes in the first, the biggest excitement may have come off of Carson Benge’s first hit of his career. What a start!

  1. The national anthem was screwed up because the singer forgot the words and repeated the opening stanza. That elongated the performance. And then the first inning was a surprise with the Pirates leading 2-0 after three at-bats. The Mets come up in the bottom half of the first and forcing Paul Skenes to throw 37 pitches with the key play of the inning Lindor going first to third on a single by Soto after Lindor led off with a walk. Then Bichette drives in his first run in his Met career with a slicing fly ball to medium right near the foul line.

  2. Chasing Paul Skenes when he’s basically been untouchable his whole career is incredible dude. What are you talking about Hoff? You think we are gonna hit a bunch of rockets off him? Weird take.

  3. Regarding the national anthem, Christopher Jackson did momentarily forget the words and ended up repeating "what so proudly we hailed" instead of saying "o'er the ramparts we watched." What was truly wonderful is that he held it together and got right back on track with "were so gallantly streaming." He finished without missing a beat. (The only beat he missed was the momentary hesitation at that terrifying moment when he knew he had forgotten the words!) It was a remarkable recovery.

  4. Bro omg. Is Evans little sidekick complaining when the Mets took the best pitcher in baseball out in the 1st inning? How is this guy is sports talk radio? Like omg lol. "Soft hits blah blah" omg

  5. I watched this game on peacock. And it so frustrating listening to the commentators go on and on how bad Skenes was, or what’s going with him, and blah blah blah. How about the fact the Mets, just torched him so bad Skenes couldn’t even get out of the first inning!
With that said, good way to get the boat off the dock.
But let’s not get crazy, it’s 1 game out 162. And the bullpen is going to give us fits.
P.s. Evan your son is awesome.

  6. You gave your kid license to interupt as much as he wants when he went on camera. I remember when my kids would do things they would never normally attempt after I let them do it once. It funny how the brain processes permission as a child. You gave me flashbacks from my kids weren't adults and i thank you.

  7. HONESTLY! lmao The refresher was not having one of the guys we've been BEGGING to breakout go 0-for lmaooo …. Alverez lategame HR is a VERY good sign! Baty 3-run triple!!! Maybe my jaded mets self can breathe some fresh air now lmfaoooo LASTLY Robert JR every at-bat was LOCKED-IN! Dude is RIGHT THERE! ….. We got 160 more but even after just this 1 game I am refreshed and ready for new Mets!

  8. A win to cry for, the Mets have no ace. If this is what they can expect from Perlata, the postseason will be a mirage. If it wasn't for the awful pirates pitching, the mets would have been trashed

  9. (Andy's Dad – Tom) – – The beauty of basball: You never know what you might see on any given day: Down 2-0 two batters in and that's a lot, when it's Skenes. And then they inconceivably (This word – I do not think it means what you think it means) chase Skenes with a five-spot after 2/3 as O-Cruz plays CF like a beer leaguer., allowing us to breathe again. Peralta alternates dominant and scruffy innings thru five, Myers gives a solid 3, Benge gives us what we hope will be the first of many highlights, Alvarez makes a statement. It's a day of "keep the line moving" , a big deal in today's "K's-ball". A hiccup by a guy wh's probably not long for Flushing in the 9th , enough to get Devin Williams vertical, but in the end, Put It In The Books for Howie, the first of what You Gotta Believe will be 91 or 92 in his swan song. Opening Day ! – yes, gotta capitalize it, it's a holiday!

  10. Coming into the season, the intelligent met fan was concerned about pitching, giving up seven runs to the pirates is concerning. We won’t always score a 11 runs. Starting pitching is a major problem, the relief pitching looked sketchy. Let’s enjoy this win, but let’s be realistic.

  11. Bad take by Hoff. There's no style points in a win. Skenes doesnt give up many hard hit balls and the Mets got one when it was needed most by Baty. Then they hit 2 HRs off the bullpen.

  12. Question for everybody. What is the best way to get to Citi field from Syracuse. Park in Manhattan and take the 7 train to Citi ? Any ideas anyone ? Thanks in advance. Went to opening day and had a great time with my daughter 🎉

  13. Bo came up short ultimately but that AB was a sign of things to come. He battled like crazy and I don’t suspect there’s gonna be a whole lot more k’s with Bo in that situation
