Jets reportedly aren’t forcing a QB pick this year since they hold three 1st-rounders next draft. They’re still doing homework though, including a private workout with Ty Simpson smart patience or risky wait

  1. I don’t know if Glenn is the guy, but I think Mougey has been excellent so far so I will trust him.

  2. The earliest they should consider drafting Ty is @44 anything else is burning an asset. Even at 44 I would be hesitant because of the impact it could have on drafting a QB in 27. Cole Payton, Nuss, Allar, and Beck are far better options in the 4th round.

  3. See, this is the absolute right decision…which means, it’s likely a smoke screen, and we are definitely taking a QB in the first round bc Jets are gonna Jet

  4. This is exactly how they should be handling it. 2027 is the real qb class but grab Simpson if he falls with the intention of still going for a qb next year.

  5. YES. Thank you. We do NOT need to reach on a QB. Draft Simpson in round 2 if you’d like him. Geno is going to start and if we draft someone, he can be a mentor, but I know 2027 we will draft someone if we aren’t at least winning 8 games. Might sign Geno to one more year and have him mentor the 2027 guy too.

  6. i think this is the right decision and I’m happy they’re doing it. And I’m sure in 5 years everyone will say 2026 was the deepest QB draft of all time

  7. Oh geez, not like I (and some others) haven’t said this for months.

That taking a flier on one of the lesser guys if they’re available in later rounds makes sense, because they could at least be backups (which we have no one for that role long term) and may offer a small percentage chance at being the guy.

Outside that, looking at next year where we have more picks and on paper what appears to be a better QB class

  8. First, I’m going to preface that nobody seems to really know what’s going on at Florham Park. It appears to me after all the moves and signings that have happened over the past month that the media is just speculating like the rest of us. They have no insider knowledge, there aren’t any leaks.

That out of the way, should the topic at hand actually be the case I’ll say this; if you have to hesitate, don’t make the move.

This is not the year to experience FOMO. The Jets are in a good spot to make whatever move they need to at QB next year, regardless of how they finish. If you look at this class and have the slightest doubt about drafting any QB at a spot, simply don’t. This year is a wash at that position, embrace it and don’t overcommit. Focus on building the team around the QB, getting weapons and protection for the next guy, as well as rebuilding that defense which collapsed last December for various reasons.

I keep thinking, even if the Jets could get Mendoza this year, I’m not letting him start early. I want to set the table, I want to build up and be one of those teams that any QB can feel comfortable in. That takes time.

2026 isn’t the year, in so many ways. Don’t lean harder into it than you have to by convincing yourself to use that high capital on someone you don’t even like that much.

  9. Smart. This class isnt that good. Idk what next years is supposed to be either but waiting is the move

  10. I would honestly be ok with taking a QB this draft, seeing how he looks, and if they aren’t sold on him going QB again next year. People will say thats dumb and a waste of draft capital but I feel like all hopes of turning the team around are predicated on landing a QB of tje future. Considering are historical record with that its better to take 2 shots at it.

  11. Ideal scenario – workout is just due dilligence and could provoke a QB-needy team to trade up with us if still available. Or maybe Rams use their pick 13 to take Ty because there is a threat of the Jets taking him at 16 with this information, and they’d rather use what they have instead of have to trade assets to move up.

  12. I know people are tired of rebuilding, and it’s also very possible the 2027 class may be overhyped, but we literally the opportunity to FINALLY rebuild correctly. We need a long term QB solution, that much anyone with a brain can tell you, but there are way too many holes on this roster still. Personally think we did a good job with some stop gaps in our free agent signings this year, but with five first rounders over the next two years, and some pretty solid day 2 picks, we can set ourselves up quite well. This year would be a great opportunity to use our top picks on defense, or one for a wide receiver, and start developing some long term solutions. We have the opportunity to play hard and stack some wins, and even if we finish 7-10 where 7 of those 10 losses were hard fought games against clearly better opponents, then suddenly we are this up and coming team with a GM that people are truly indeed buying into. Make some good free agent signings in 2027, draft a QB with one of your picks (in an ideal world Indy completely unravels and we luck into a great pick) or use your draft capital to trade up. Maybe Ty turns out to be good, but at this point you have to operate as if history is going to repeat itself (looking at you, Zach Wilson).

Plus, also very possible we can do a full reset next year. Ideal scenarios – new coach, and new QB, and continuity with Mougey as GM because this seasons showed signs of promise.

  13. If we picked Ty we want him to sit and develop. If things go to shit he has a partial year starting and what would be a bad team. It’s not enough time to make a fair assessment and decide if we need someone new next year.

  14. If we do a good job building the team, we could be the first choice for people like Mac Jones in the future as a better stopgap version of Geno. Absolutely draft a QB next year as well. Don’t have him need to be the savior and start day one when he’s not ready give him time to develop and beat someone out who is a starting caliber player.

  15. If Simpson has great meetings, whiteboard sessions, etc. it’s going to probably go a long with Woody and the best way to keep your job as coach or GM unfortunately is to do what the Owner wants. If Woody likes him and he’s there at 16 it’s going to be hard for them to pass on him.

  16. Correct decision. Any decision with a QB is risky in the draft. The best QB ever was almost picked as Mr. irrelevant. Talent is like clay. High quality material helps but it’s the teams coaching and use that will make or break a seasons success.

We blow at building QBs. So getting the same result (drafting a QB for the future that we probably will need to latently great) makes more sense without committing higher picks.

We can get the best result with a lower pick while succeeding getting stronger players we have a better history with at certain positions.
