Since the schedule used to have more intra-division games, and before inter-league play, I’m guessing a lot of teams started out playing within divisions which would explain why this just happened now for the first time.

No division should ever go undefeated on opening day. Should be playing each other
Question: do most teams play their opening weekend series vs. same league or division rivals? (In recent years)
