Knew this one was doomed after the 100% challenge win rate graphic
Honestly, I get it. Avs didnt really need the W tonight, so there really wasn’t much to lose by raising the challenge. But theres was plenty to gain from it.
Yeah whatever the rules are for goalie interference, I think the refs and the league looked at it, saw that that shot was going in regardless of whether or not blackwood had other players in his face, and said good goal. I was surprised when the bench asked for it as well
Magic eight Ball says…….
No goaltender interference
I dunno, I’d have gone ahead and challenged it since the guy was definitely in the crease and made some contact with Blackwood. But I’m not too surprised it didn’t get overturned.
It’s like they say in the broadcast, at this point there’s no rhyme or reason to the decisions and literally nobody knows what the actual rules are. I mean, Nate Dogg gets a major and misconduct after being pushed into a goalie and toews clearly obstructs Blackwood without Landy putting so much as a pinky on him and they somehow managed to completely fuck both calls. I know they’re not the same kind of play because the Nate Dogg one was a pretty vicious collision through no fault of nate’s. It’s just the inconsistency and the refusal to explain the decision is getting beyond absurd. Particularly when it decides games down the stretch when every point counts as teams try to jockey for position. It’s absurd.
I was at the game and told my friend they shouldn’t challenge that, only guaranteed we were going to be short handed
The odds of winning were very small, but jets PP wasn’t a threat, give up 2 min for a chance to be tied?
I take that gamble. The odds of us scoring 5v5 the way the game was going, I take the chance. It wasn’t that it was likely we win challenge, it’s we were unlikely to score with 5 or 3 min remaining
Sometimes you just gotta roll the dice.
Soft call? Yes.
So, was it by definition, goaltender interference? Also yes; (funny enough it’s rule [#69](https://www.nhl.com/video/video-rulebook-goalie-interference-6362363661112) ). None of the calls over it as yes or no will ever make any sense. When you watch this and then also see games where goalies in the blue stuffed, injured, knocked down, etc. and the no calls as well, it adds more chaos.
There needs to be a stat tracker that rates good calls bad calls, and questionable calls (or blame rule vagueness) that goes into the performance review of referees.
The tracking as a mechanism forces a few options, fire a bad referee, update the rule for it being outdated or whatnot, or you make the ref rewatch the video on the rule to fix their ruling mistake in the future.
Late goal in the 3rd with a tough goalie on the other site. I think it was a calculated risk.
Seriously, who the fuck challenges THAT?!?!
It was a desperation play. Winnipeg’s strategy makes it so hard for the Avs to score. Sometimes you have to try the long shot challenge because the alternative is a longer shot.
Like how the announcer said it was 100% lol. Altitude so biased .
Yeah but when your down 1 in the 3rd with one of the best PKs of the league you give it a shot. The refs don’t know what goalie interference is half the time anyways
