TL;DR:
A lender called Aliya Sports Finance Fund is suing a broker, Sure Sports, after being tricked into loaning $4.375 million to a person posing as NFL star Xavier McKinney in April 2024. The lawsuit claims the broker was negligent and failed to verify the identity of the imposter, who vanished with the money shortly after McKinney signed a massive contract with the Packers. While the FBI is investigating the theft and a trial is set for July 2026, the real McKinney is not involved in the legal battle and was simply a victim of identity theft.
[NBC] "Also, KaplanSportsBiz reports that McKinney was one of the victims of the scammer who prompted a recent NFLPA warning to all agents, as his identity was stolen to facilitate a multi-million dollar fraud. This specific case is reportedly tied to the broader FBI investigation into Kwamaine Jerell Ford's activities."

Identity theft is not a joke. Millions of families suffer every year.
Every loan I’ve ever applied for required SS# and multiple forms of verification. And the biggest of those was like $40k for a car. How do you just give a $4M loan out like that without doing any form of verification? Unless they have his SS# and all the required background info.

Congrats to the thief on most assuredly getting away with it
How do you give out that kind of money without being 100% positive it’s the real person?
The FBI has been corrupted ( by both parties) and is completely inept, spending resources on political witch hunts, which means white collar crime is the lowest priority. The perp will never be found.
I recently had someone fraudulently open a credit card in my name. I’ve had it “sorted,” but it’s still impacting my credit score because it takes time for things to be removed by the credit bureaus.
It’s a giant pain in the butt, I hope X doesn’t have to deal with any of that.
