Dump Foote, bring in Bruce?

  1. Players hate Bruce – he’s the kind of coach when you need to get over the hump, not a coach you hire when you’re trying to build a core

  2. I doubt any coach with pedigree is coming here unless we win the top pick anyways

  3. Even if Bruce Cassidy somehow came here, I don’t think this team would be all that better. Would they be 17 points in last place bad? Probably not. I still think they would be 25th to 29th bad.

  4. Respectfully any former NHL coach will be better than our coaching at the moment.

I don’t think Cassidy is a coach who would want to help a rebuilding team, nor does his style fit a team that’s rebuilding.

  5. Great coach but not sure he’s the right fit for us. Seems like a coach you bring in when the team is ready to contend

  6. Nope. Keep the tank commander for one or two more years, draft some franchise level talent, then try to be competitive. Stenberg / McKenna / Verhoeff are great, but definitely not enough to build a contender.

  7. I still think manny is a better for a rebuilding team, he can get the most of young players an develop them

Cassidy is a top head coach but he’s more suited to coach established stars in the nhl

  8. If Cassidy coaches the Canucks, pretty sure debrusk will request a trade lol, he doesn’t like him

  9. NO! Let Foote continue the tank for another year, then maybe he gets bought out of the last year on his contract and Manny is promoted.

  10. Nah he’s not a coach for a rebuilding team. He’s a coach you hire when you are a few moves away from a cup

  11. Bruce Cassidy is a “we’re trying to win a championship” coach, not a “we are at the start of a rebuild* coach

  12. I keep hearing in the media, specifically about us, firing Foote would be a bad look. It would be a firing under changed circumstances, no? Even then I’d be worried bringing in Malhotra a season or two too early unless he gains access to good personnel and resources. I just want Malhotra to have everything around him he needs to be successful.

  13. Cassidy struggles to coach teams that are trailing. If his team is losing 2-0 he coaches as if it’s still 0-0, and he waits too long to make an adjustment.

If you’re trying to get a coach whose structure is consistent regardless of game situation he may be the guy.

However, I think it takes a specific team (a team that can jump on other teams early) for him to win.

I don’t think Aqua would pay for him but it’s not the worst idea.

  14. They should go after Dave Carle, who coached Buium in college.

Not only do those two have a strong working relationship, pretty sure he’s considered a really good coach for young players and has developed a strong program at the University of Denver.

Though iirc some NHL teams have tried to hire him before and he stayed in the NCAA.

  15. The upside of keeping Foote is a heightened chance at DuPont.

But the downside of keeping him could be worse. Do we really want Buium, Willander and DPetey learning from him? What about McKenna, Stenberg, or Verhoeff?

The team development is what we should focus on.

  16. I was interested at first but after reading some comments about him, I think I’ll pass

  17. I do want to keep Foote until we replace him with Malhotra whether that’s next year or not I don’t know. The issue becomes when do you actually let him go and potentially halt the tank? Because the next draft has a really good top 3 again, and the one after may be better than both the next two.
