Bold move hope it works.
Sinbin has a lot of dumb takes this one is spot on.
Really they should have played out the season with Cassidy and fired the front office when the team either finds a way to miss the playoffs or they bounced in the 1st round.
I’m hoping it all works out in the end. Although right now, it feels terrible.

Watching Cassidy raise the Cup in a few years in LA or San Jose is going to be extremely annoying.
Something really ironic about firing Cassidy after losing a game with our meh goalie against a better goalie the gms traded away
I can’t disagree with this take tbh. This is a panic move.
3 times now this team has fired a coach when things go wrong:
-Gallant after a crazy losing streak
-DeBoer after missing playoffs for the first time
-Cassidy after our first season where losses will outnumber wins
And I get the panic. Foley isn’t getting younger, and wants to reach the summit again. He’s spending like it for sure. Can’t hand out contracts like Eichel’s and Marner’s and be content with just barely making the playoff and likely being smacked round 1.
This is 10000% McCrimmon protecting his job.
Sad
Front office won a cup in six years. Go be a fan of countless other teams if you think they are incompetent. You have to play with the cards you’re dealt. It’s a tough league.
Way too soon – I would have at least given Cassidy until the end of the season. I do think a better / healthier goalie is the missing piece, but I guess we’ll see.
So this is how I’m learning of the news…and uh what the fuck
I can not think of a coach worse for our star players style of play, Torts like tough guy bullshit and gritty hockey play style does not mesh with Eichel, Doro, Marner.
It’s a panic move, and I’m not sure what Torts hopes to gain by it. He can’t do much of anything with 8 games left.
The panic shows that McCrimmon thinks he is likely gone at the beginning of the summer too. Torts will probably be jobless again because the new guy is going to want his own head coach.
Best thing that can happen for the franchise going forward would be to miss the playoffs to make sure we get a GM change.
This single-handedly is making me lose all faith in this team. It’s a desperation move by the managers because their ass is on the line. This is so fucking beyond dumb.
I thought they’d fire Cassidy after the inevitable 4-1 or 4-0 first round exit. But I didn’t even consider they’d fire him now
The league finally gets smart and stops letting themselves get fleeced by the Mc’Gms and the answer is to fire our coach…
Stick to tennis
Sinbin are a bunch of crybabies regardless
The disrespect to our cup winning coach. All because hill cant stop a cold
Honestly, it isn’t a very good take. All this means is that Bruce’s seat was hot and another early exit would have seen him gone in the summertime, likely for someone who runs more complementary systems for the team’s respective strengths OR Ryan Craig.
So instead of waiting for what was looking to be a disappointing conclusion to the season, management pulls a ripcord and gives the shortest of short-term deals to the ultimate “shot in the arm but short shelf life” guy. They just accelerated their timeframe by a few months.
At best, Torts actually helps the team and they keep him for one more season before moving on in their preferred direction. At worst, the change doesn’t help and the team’s a first round exit or near playoff miss. Which is what we were going to be this year anyway.
Ken’s flabbergasted because he sees the sport in black and white and doesn’t understand it well enough to grasp strategy. The writing’s been on the wall since 2024, when Crim went nuts at the deadline looking for possession-controlling offensive weapons.
Cassidy really prefers a shell-and-counter playstyle that requires a VERY defensive blueline full of shot blockers and speed up the middle to attack in transition. We don’t have either of those things anymore. We have slower, highly-skilled forwards who are strong on puck possession and a hyper-aggressive defensive group. It’s the exact opposite of what you need for shell defense and rush offense. Cassidy’s had two years to change his gameplan to fit this emerging trend and he hasn’t been able to do it.
When you view the game of the lens of “this coach good, this coach bad” you’re ignoring a lot of what’s actually going on inside the game. Which is what Ken does because it’s easier to react emotionally to black and white concepts and his job is to generate engagement.
Cassidy was stuck in a certain way while the roster changed around him. Torts isn’t necessarily a direct answer to this problem, he’s a band-aid with upside. I think they might already have the guy they want for this roster in Henderson.
Is this Kelly and George’s call, or Bill being impatient…
I think they (and we) need to accept the team can’t be a perpetual contender. There’s going to need to be a retool at some point.
