We're still in a Wildcard spot and are tied with the Pens for 3rd place in metro. I get that blowing a 3-0 lead going into the third period is infuriating but we have 8 more games before the season ends, it isn't over until it's over.

  1. It’s more so how they lost than the standing’s implications. Plus it’s hard to have faith when they’ve looked dead for a majority of the week

  2. If the Senators OR wings win their next game we’re out of the wildcard spot. Even the flyers can catch us now with games in hand. Our playoff odds are going to drop significantly under 50%.

  3. It’s the principle. What should have been a shutout, turned into our captain giving up 2 FUCKING weak penalties because he continually gets beat at crucial times, and a loss. Simply disheartening.

  4. I’m not fully worrying about missing the playoffs yet. We absolutely could beat Carolina twice and win another 4 games with the games we have left. What worries me is that we are leaving our fate in other team’s hands by dropping 3 games in a row. We could have been in the 3rd spot with a bit of cushioning and now we have to worry about not only winning against Carolina but also about Detroit and Ottawa’s next game. I do agree with this post though and we are still in a decent position, just slipping is the thing.

  5. These optimistic posts are so fucking annoying. How long are you people going to be sunshine and rainbows about this team pissing every opportunity away to make the playoffs?

They lose when they’re at 87% to make playoffs and you call us doomers.

They lose when they’re down to 60% chance and you call us doomers.

Next they’ll lose again when they’re at 20% chance, are you still going to post and tell everyone to calm down?

They can’t win a fucking game in the clutch. That’s not doomerism, that is objective truth.

  6. I will calm down when we get our heads out of our ass. Great offense in the first period and fall off immediately after, this isn’t the Bones era gameplay we had before, it feels like we regressed back to fucking Evason era again.

When we play like I know we can, then I will calm down.

  7. I’m not saying we can’t do it, but nothing in the sad, pathetic history of this franchise makes me believe that we’re going to rally from this and make the playoffs.

I get that we’re not truly out of it but you can’t fault fans for thinking otherwise when this shit NEVER works in our favor

  8. It isn’t over until it’s over but we have not been playing like a playoff team for the past week with this one being the most gut wrenching because we were up 3-0 in the 3rd. If we keep playing like this we will slide out of the picture.

  9. We were outshot 30-12 in the final 2 periods and OT, and just allowed *ANOTHER* team we are directly competing with for a playoff spot get 2 unearned points against us.

You feel fine backing into the playoffs as the last seed, but no one else is. That isnt an “us” problem, thats a “you” problem

  10. Making the playoffs would be great but we’ll never get anywhere without an actual first line.

  11. It’s very plausible to get in for sure. It’s just that this whole past week has been gut wrenching. There’s not more breathing room to drop many more points. So, if this slump doesn’t end basically next game, it’s kinda ggs.

  12. 12 shots on goal in the last 2 periods

They should have stood on their neck, instead they helped them back to their feet

  13. No. That was bullshit. They don’t deserve playoffs. Provorov is absolute trash. Monahan is washed up. Jet isn’t nearly as good as anyone thinks.

  14. Yes but look at the trends. Earlier this week MoneyPuck had us at a high 80s to low 90s percent to make the playoffs.

  15. We don’t want to just squeak in, we want to make a deep run and be a legitimate contender. I’m honestly at a point where it’s meaningless if we make the playoffs and have another first round exit. People aren’t frustrated because the margin in is slim. They’re frustrated because this isn’t looking like a team who can win.

  16. Instead of 3 points this weekend, they got 1.

They played one complete period out of 6.

    They really Deaned it.

  17. What on earth makes you think this team has what it takes to play well enough for the last 8 games (3 against division leaders) to get into the playoffs?

  18. This is the same mindset the guys clearly have. Perfectly fine with being perfectly fine. We were 3 spots up like 4 days ago. We’re angry because we fucking should be angry

  19. Four losses would be easier to swallow if they were spread out over the last three months instead of all together after one of the hottest runs in our history. WC2 would seem like we’re hanging in there rather than letting it get away.

  20. They got 1/4 points with a combined ~2 minutes of game time remaining this weekend from having 4/4

  21. Good and great teams score to tie or win in the final minute. We just don’t have that ability.

Also if we’re 3-0 down in the first, we don’t come back to win.

  22. Just drove back to canton tonight after that bs…. We should be 100times more pissed off

  23. Really not sure this graph takes everything into consideration, especially considering the rest of the schedule and the fact that there are 3 teams at 86 with one game in hand on us

  24. The bad part of this is that we no longer control our destiny.  If we had two points tonight, we still would (and we would have leapfrogged the Penguins).  Unfortunately, Ottawa, Detroit, and Philadelphia are two points back with a game in-hand, and Ottawa and Detroit both beat us in tie breakers.

Tomorrow, Pens and Islanders play one another.  Someone we’re chasing gains ground, and possibly both do.  The day after that, the team chasing us by 2 points (Wings) plays the team beating us by 2 points (Pens).  Unironically, this hell of our own design is that we have to root for the Islanders to beat the Pens so the Pens stay in reach, then either root for the Penguins to beat the Wings so we can cling to a spot, or the Wings to beat the Penguins so that we can leapfrog them, maybe, from below the cutoff line.

I’m not a doomer, but I can’t stand feeling helpless.  And in this situation, no outcome ends up being good no matter how much help we get around the league.

  25. At the end of the day you’re right. And they’re right. Do we even deserve a playoff spot playing like this? Are there injuries we don’t know about? Is Bones even wanting to stick around if we fold? Is Oli okay? Just hype 1st that lead to 40 minute penalty kill that ended up collapsing after 2 regulation losses is damn near a brick to the head for our joy. I wanna see my team in the playoffs but more importantly I don’t want to walk out of a sold out game depressed at the display. I think we can hold hope and still view this week as an absolute masterclass in sitting down too fast and crushing your own balls in the recliner.

  26. I don’t even want to watch this team in the playoffs at this point. If you can’t perform well in late march you won’t perform well in the playoffs.

  27. Better to face adversity now under Bones than halfway through a playoff run. Let the man cook and we will come out the other side on a positive note.

  28. They really had us believing in our selves for a moment. We touched a little bit of greatness this season and that can’t be taken away. Good possibility we just got on everyone’s radar and they conspired ways to beat us. Players get analyzed, weaknesses are exploited. If our division was not so damn competitive it might be easier, they have to pull out those playoff adjustments earlier than usual desperately to keep pace.

  29. What the standings you posted show me is we forfeited control of our own destiny this weekend. I think it’s reasonable for people to be upset about that.

Hope the Islanders and Pens don’t go to OT tonight, but I’d bet your house on it.
