Unbelievable, generational talent. Share this to the NBA sub and someone will find a way to knock it
He has reached the LeBron level of MVPs not mattering anymore – all that matters for his legacy at this point is another ring (or at least finals appearances).
In Jokic’s last MVP season he was 3.5 Win shares, 3.3 BPM, and 2.6 VORP above 2nd place. This year he’s down 0.5 Win shares while being up 2.5 BPM and 1.3 VORP. Yes his counting stats are better but he’s not statistically head and shoulders above everyone else like he was a few years ago. Combine that with missing a bunch of games, the defense being pretty shit post injury, and the team being well behind the Thunder and Spurs and it makes sense why he’s not going to get MVP this year. Who gives a shit, he’s got 3 already, all that matters is winning another title
Him finishing 3rd or 4th isn’t some slander or goalpost moving. These Luka, SGA, Wemby and Joker seasons make it one of the more stacked MVP races of our lifetime. Every guy has a legit case & would win in a ton of other years prior.
If the strongest reason against his mvp case is *he’s already won it too many times* that tells me enough.
If he had zero mvps so far, he definitely wins this year.
simply the best, has to be MVP, Nikola Jokic, Great”ic”
I think he should be MVP but tbf the “goalpost moving” comes largely from SGA having back to back two of the best seasons by a guard in the history of the NBA
He’s a 1 of 1. A player that controls the court better than anyone in the league, and possibly in the history of the league. His only comparison is to himself, so we can talk about raw stats, or advanced stats, or the eye test, but it’ll all fall flat since it’s not a 1 to 1 comparison.
The mvp debate is just comparing apples and oranges and saying this apple tastes more appley than that orange tastes orangey. Since he plays like no one else it’s kind of impossible to figure out how orangey he is. And add to that once you get a couple of these trophies no one is going to want to add another until you dominate the league, so he’s kind of locked into the 2-4 spot until he gets another championship or two. It’s a crazy way to approach voting but it is what it is, you can’t beat the narrative. Voters got bored giving it to bird, to MJ, and to lebron. Now they’re bored with Jok.
As a Sixers fan I think he deserves it. Should’ve had 5 by now and this should be his six. Think they are getting voter fatigue of Jokic though sadly.
I love joker but this is a dumb opinion
Now compare the seasons for the other tops players for each year
