Ok so nothing to say.
I bet he wasn't working on anything. He didn't want to pay the huge asking prices for mediocre players PERIOD.
The mysterious trade is for Nico Hischier and Šimon Nemec imo.
With all the on and off and on again talks the Habs supposedly had with St.Louis, I would think the "substantial" trade was with them. HOWEVER, I am personally hoping it was not bc I am not a huge fan of Robert Thomas (too similar to Suzuki) and or Kyrou (not really a bonafide "wow" factor addition)…and/or Parayko (great R Dman but age). It's just speculation but I've heard names like Tom Wilson from Washington, Nico Hershiser from NJ, Mathew Knies from TO, Mason McTavish from Anaheim…all seem a little far fetched but isn't it fun to play hockey detective. The fact that Hughes so subtly mentioned the substantial trade in his presser (he knew he had to give the fans/media some kind of nugget to explain his trade deadline inaction)…but the fact he mentioned he would possibly revisit it in the summer has me wondering if the sticking point was cap compliance…ie constraints of Laine's $8.7 contract…so once it's off the books, it gives Hughes more freedom. My hope and educated guess…whatever deal Hughes is working on is something no fan or media has talked about…I'm just a little concerned who the Habs are willing to give up because to get something good, you got to give up something good. We shall have to wait and see. Always great to see Kyle join the HabsTonight show!
It was with Anaheim for Mason McTavish
Someone mentioned a leak, it was Šimon Nemec
I don’t even know why you’re even talking about this anymore. It’s nothing burger.
