I mainly just struggle to see us taking a defensive player with all the money we threw at the defense this off season.
I think it’s Love, Tate, Mauigoa, or a trade down.
Saleh also heavily utilizes a wide 9 edge in his defense, and that’s the main hole that hasn’t been filled based on the scheme he runs. For those that don’t know, a wide 9 edge is lined up far on the outside of the OT to create a 1-on-1 matchup, and wide 9’s are usually the “speed-rusher” archetype. Saleh also emphasized how important arm length is in edges at the Combine.
When evaluating all of these things, David Bailey seems like a much more likely pick for the Saleh defense than Bain does.
…because Bain isn’t as good an offensive weapon as Love
Poorly framed argument. Bain didn’t test, so doesn’t have a RAS. Which kind of doesn’t seem to be a deal breaker, according to this tweet.
Bain has the shortest arms ever for the position. Of course Saleh doesn’t have a precedent for drafting guys with arms as short as his.
Tired dad is da real MVP
For some reason even with all the buzz going in different directions, Sonny Styles just kind of feels like a Saleh guy.
There isn’t a player in this draft better than bain & he proved that in the playoffs. There’s a reason why the 2 faces of the program are making it known they want. When love played bain he was a complete no show ( like he was vs every elite defense w nfl talent ) , when they played Tamu & he got called out by one of the best pass blockers in the pff history he responded w 3sacks/4tfls/ and a blocked FG holding a top 20 offense to 3 points at home in the PO , when he played Ohio St that has 4 frps it was clear bain was head & shoulders better & more impact than all of them maybe besides downs , & in the natty vs the 1st pick and the best LT he dominated yet again.
I truly think that we are getting Bosa! Post draft (pending any move backs, etc. Same with guard zietler)
I think its Bain or Bailey or trade down. Regardless of the arm size, look at the RAS. The man really tweeted a post on RAS instead of arm length.
Both Bain and Bailey have impressively high RAS scores. We really should look at both drafts from Mike Borg with him at KC and Saleh at SF/NYJ.
I really think we are taking offense
Does anyone feel like Bain’s arm length has been such a focus of him that his other flaws are kind of overlooked? He certainly has his strengths that’s undeniable but he has a very poor pressure to sack ratio for an elite college DE with 11.4%, he also apparently has a high missed tackle rate.
That has to raise questions over his closing ability, especially with him moving up to the NFL where QBs are better at avoiding sacks and he’s likely going to have a harder time producing pressure.
I think we go Bailey if he is there and love if he isn’t.
I love how sure of themselves everybody becomes at draft time
