The Atlanta Hawks are one of the hottest teams in the league over the last 16 games. Coach Nick breaks down the differences since they traded Trae Young, both offensively and defensively.
No other player on the roster has been thriving as much as Nickeil Alexander-Walker during this streak. Studying how he’s getting his shots explains the difference between the Hawks’ offense now versus under Trae Young. We look at how Quin Snyder is utilizing NAW in corner actions and hand-offs to create ruthlessly efficient looks.
Without Trae Young on the floor, the Hawks have relied more heavily on offensive sets to generate good looks. This is a coach’s dream. We break down the HORNS sets and zoom actions that are springing players loose. Having a veteran like CJ McCollum out there helps immensely. He knows how to read a defense and find Alexander-Walker as he cuts from corner to corner.
We also examine:
The impact of replacing Trae Young with CJ McCollum.
How the Hawks improved their turnover percentage to rank 13th in the league
The impressive 120.5 Offensive Rating during this 17-game span.
The playmaking of Jalen Johnson, which has gone under the radar for far too long.

  1. No fucking shit Atlanta is better of without him.

Trae Young is a fundamentally losing player, and he always fucking has been.

Bad efficiency + high volume + low basketball IQ + turnover machine + worst defender in the NBA + undersized + unathletic = losing basketball.

Dude should have never even been a first option on any fucking team.

  2. The only way Hawks fans like myself would feel better about the future was if we took Sarr or Clingan instead of mid ass Risacher. That one still hurts

  3. Real Talk… You meant, they have a great shot at beating the Pistons in a second round or Eastern Conference Finals series, because I don't see the Hawks being the 8th seed team to play the Pistons in the first round. Go Hawks !!!

  4. With Trae, it was mainly pick and roll and stand in the corners 🤦🏽‍♂️. What was even more frustrating is when Trae would give the ball up, he never cut or anything. Just stood there waiting for the ball back. Love the offensive flow of this current roster.

  5. i hope we make the conference finals. tired of ppl always sayin well trae got us to the finals when i know damn well if embidd was not injured no way hawks would have beat the 76ers that season. they may have lost the play in also if it wasnt for a injured team.

  6. Great breakdown! Been saying this for years about the direction of the Hawks. We are currently watching the small guard become non existent in the nba. Front office is on fire!

  7. Hawks starting five can each easily average 19, & kuminga & risacher can easily average 14. all 7 have good to excellent defense, very good passing, & explosive athleticism. With good matchup bench players Vincent, landale, kispert, & guye their deep talent will compete against any team in any playoff series. They are primed for a deep playoff run

  8. The traditional triangle offense don't work anymore in this era of basketball it feels like kinda slow in this type of modern basketball but some part of it still use on offense majority of plays today more on zoom
