Why did he proactively tell the media this lol despite what you think personally we didn’t need more crap this week. Whatever, when you win this goes away. Draft can’t come soon enough
EDIT: This isn’t a feel-sorry-for-Frank post. It’s about the Lions choosing to recoup a relatively small amount of money that barely moves the needle, while taking on a wave of negative attention from former players and key voices around the league. Agree with it or not, the optics aren’t great, players talk, agents talk, and this kind of move sticks.

I’m pro worker but if you retire before your contract is up you are not fulfilling the contract. Why should they continue to be paid?
I don’t blame the Lions at all for recouping funds in this situation.
Anytime I decide to check in on this sub I’m chronically reminded why I generally tried to avoid it lol.
Cool – I hope you try this with employers. It’s a contractual obligation and the NFL is a business like any other.
Why are we treating athletes any differently? If you had a signing bonus at work (and not in WA, CA, CO), then you would be sued for refusing to give it back.
This fanbase needs a cleansing badly…. Dudes completely lost the plot thinking this is ok.
Imagine if we win the SB? Dudes acting like this team can do no wrong after 2 playoff wins 2 years ago.
Glad we got that money back, we wouldn’t have 24mil in cap space without it 🤡
Don’t mess with the rod, you’ll get the wood
boohoo he will have only made 55 million instead of 57 million over the course of his career. who cares, fact is he broke the contract, or at least did not fulfill what was agreed upon, and truthfully we really needed him last season, the o line looked so rough without him. I’m not about sucking players off who do this, funny thing is the other 2 players you mentioned both did the same thing, or at least something similar.
This move has historically hurt them more than help them no matter if it is their right to recoup the money so I don’t get the people that are okay with the Lions doing this. I don’t get how Rod Wood doesn’t see the negatives of the PR hit when its hurt the organization before. I believe it is better for the organization to have a good reputation among NFL players than it is to get money back.
I get that Ragnow didnt complete his contract and in the normal course of life, he wouldnt get his money. That is not a reason to approve of the Lions move when the a majority of NFL teams let longtime tenured players keep the money. In the context of the NFL business, it is more normal to let important players keep their money even though in the real world that is not what happens.
Bunch of fans still butthurt Frank left us hanging even though his body was washed.
The same people complaining about this will also complain about the Lions not signing free agents…
I’m convinced this is the biggest no-story of all time
Media’s just bored
“…we didn’t need more crap this week.”
What people don’t get that historically this hasn’t worked out well for the Lions and now there’s cracks being shown in this “culture” Dan and Brad has worked hard to build. The PR has been an nightmare and hasn’t been a good look. Players around the league are going to start looking at this organization a bit differently if Dan and Brad don’t win a superbowl.
No one gives a shit about this but people who like to pretend like gossip matters to people who are being offered millions to come play a child’s game.
I don’t get the hate here. You sign a contract to do something. You voluntarily leave breaking the contract and should expect to recoup some of the money for not fulfilling their end of the contract.
I love the sport, but I’m under no illusion that it’s anything more than a business. It’s just a highly visible business.
at the end of the day, even though players make a lot of money, they have nothing to sell but their labor. I support the players getting what theyre owed and other players do too (which you should care about as a fan who wants players to want to play here, even if you dont care about the labor part)
Really thought we had turned the corner as a franchise in terms of shooting ourselves in the foot like this. My only question is how far in advance did Campbell know and how cool was he with it? Rod’s higher up so he may not have said anything to Campbell at all but I’m curious
Honestly, fuck Ragnow. He fucked the team over and sabotaged our season by doing so. Fat cunt.
It’d one thing if it was just $3M cash for a team that has plenty of money, but this money counts against the salary cap, so it is $3M that the team cannot pay to Frank’s former teammates and guys putting their butts on the line. Teams have more financial responsibility to their current players than former ones and I think even the NFLPA would agree with that.
Seems like they pulled this before Rod Wood is out the door. Maybe hoping he takes the bad juju with him. Ownership still had to sign off I know. But he’s an easy villain
See a lot of pearl clutching defending the $50+ millionaire retiring before 30 for not doing his job and leaving his “friends” out to dry. If you quit your job today, are you getting your 2027 salary??
It’s hilarious people are making the claim this “has hurt the Lions before”. This is completely baseless. Source? Proof? Anything besides yapping fans who think millionaires should get more millions for quitting?
Downvote me, objectively Ragnow is not owed that money and paying him does not do anything positive for the franchise despite the baseless cries that it would.
So is every team doing this or just the Lions?
