I question Stammen's decision to bat Cro first considering he was 9th last year. I also question his BP arm choices. He let Hart stay in too long. As for the offense: Tatis looks like he's trying to bat but can't say the same for Machado. Sheets swings at junk but takes on straight up the middle. Boegarts is his usual rally-killer self.
It's hard to blame Stammen for the poor start given the superstars on this roster are not performing up to the back of the baseball card standards.
Unfortunately, our roster is what it is and there is nothing in AAA to save us.
If this team doesn't start playing better, we are not a playoff team.
We will need a new owner with deep pockets to change the entire organization and move off the bad contracts.
IMO it's a little early to criticize Stamnen for his lineups although I'd suggest the Crime worth as leadoff might be losing its shine. But who else to bat leadoff if not Status? Bogarts has some experience.
And giving Laureano a day off can be understandable depending on stats. The season is a marathon and won't be won in the first week of play.
In fact, although it's disappointing to ever lose, I think it's important to keep in mind that there is a lot that's new about this year's Padres team and it might take awhile to establish roles and consistent performance
