  1. Michal Postava leads the entire AHL in SV% and GAA with .935% and 1.77 in 22 games. Also has 3 shutouts and has never let in more than 3 goals in a game. He has played about 15 games less than the typical starter; however, these numbers are frankly unbelievable for a first year AHLer.

  2. I got about half way through hand washing my hand wash only pillows before saying “fuck it” and putting them into the machine so prayers up for my pillows everyone.

  3. Forget feelings let’s look at reality:

There are (barring a mircale) five teams competing for two spots: Detroit, and Ottawa WC2; Philly, Columbus, NYI for Metro 3 or WC2.

    Games remaining: DRW 8, OTT 8, PHI 8, CBJ 7, NYI 6

Detroit, Ottawa, Columbus and Philly all have a max points potential of 102. The Islanders have a max points total of 101.

Tie-breakers are pretty simple: RW first, ROW 2nd, W third, H2H points %

Detroit plays all but Ottawa and New York. Tonight at PHI, 4/9 vs PHI, vs CBJ 4/7.

Columbus has a season points pace of 96.2.

Islanders have a season point pace of 96.0.

Detroit, Ottawa and Philly have the exact same season points pace: 95.3.

Any combination to get 11 points in 8 games would likely do it for the Wings, as we’ve said many times before no team has ever missed the playoffs when achieving 97 or more points. That means two regulation losses is the absolute max that we can afford and even two is probably risking it.

Regardless of your feelings on the likelihood or how they’ve been playing the Wings still control their fate against everyone except Ottawa.

Rooting interests tonight are pretty cut and dry:

    BUFFALO over Ottawa

    CAROLINA over Columbus

    DETROIT over Philly

  4. Staying in the city tonight at meeting some friends tomorrow for opening day. Where’s a good place to depression watch the game tonight?

  5. I’ve been betting against the wings but March is finally over, I think I’m gonna put it all on the wings tonight then delete my account.

  6. All the other WC teams playing division leaders? Oh yeah, another shellacking incoming.

  7. More Seider vibes this morning

I believe tonight will be his 403rd consecutive game to start his career which will tie Ivan Provorov for the most consecutive starts for a defenseman to begin a career

  8. Alright folks, we have won 2 regular season games in Philly since 1997. Time to make it 3 tonight.

  9. Went to the Griffins game last night, I know Rockford isn’t great this season but god damn the griffs looked so good. Maybe 2-3 simple little mistakes but the one or two scoring chances from them didn’t matter with Postava in net. The boys were buzzing, connecting passes, making great breakouts and putting some fantastic shots on net.

Genborg took a couple dumb penalties but also stood out in a really good way all night.

Anton Johansson looks fantastic and clearly sees the game VERY well.

Tralmarks is an impressive player out there too

Lombardi definitely deserves a shot with the wings, looks like he’s gotten a little bigger and stronger, stays healthy and puts on a little more muscle this off season and he could be something.

Just overall REALLY fun to see a jersey with the winged wheel play a phenomenal game with near zero errors and mistakes.

  10. Students are off for Spring break until Monday, and all week long I’ve been failing to remember what day it is.

  11. If Draper is more or less 100% behind the prospect picks, then I’m really curious to see what he would do with full control. The prospects have been the best thing about the wings for years. Since SY took over, the prospects have improved considerably.
Petry, Tarasenko, Staal, Holl, Hagg, Hamonic. Wonder what Draper thought on those.

At least last season was the first time we haven’t broken a goalie in years.

  12. I am looking forward to watching my favorite hockey team, the Detroit Red Wings

  13. I like how that guy posted a model that looked favorably upon the wings, which didn’t make sense with either the eye test or compared to moneypuck, then the mods removed it for self promotion.

That was a good laugh. Of course this team is not close to top 5 in expected goals percentage at 5on5.

  14. I’m going to watch the team tonight despite my best interest. I hope it’s not going to be a complete horror show, but I’m not that optimistic about it. It seems a lot of the guys are dealing with hidden injuries and then we have the obvious jerseys. One part of me wishes that they would call every single prospect from GR and just let the youth play. It wouldn’t fix anything, but it would make the the games more interesting to watch.

  15. I’m going to maintain that we aren’t that bad. It’s just compounding frustration for the last 3 or 4 years. We’re better than Edmonton, the guys with mcdavid and Draisaitl.

  16. I’ll just repost my sentiments here, but the WWP guys might be right on with the notion that Todd’s comments questioning the compete of the group at this time of year is a message to Yzerman and the FO just as much as it is to the actual players. Basically, a cry for help.

Because Todd is right. He shouldn’t have to get these guys to try this late in the season when so much is on the line. That should just be a given. Something really is fundamentally wrong if this group can’t be arsed to give a damn during this final stretch.

  17. Well looks like the Wings will be facing an even deeper Flyers team than last game. They have Martone but it looks like Foerster is back for them tonight as well

  18. Is Horcoff in charge of GR? If Steve steps aside I’d rather him than Draper

  19. Just pencil Carter Bear into the lineup next season. No point in him playing another year in the W.

  20. Do we see a light at the end of the tunnel? Are we going to be stuck in mediocrity till Larkin is past his prime and we have to start another rebuild ?

  21. Despite best efforts, this team is still in the thick of the race. Whether or not they deserve to be is another discussion, but I for one will be thrilled if they can pull it off. I was in college last time they made the playoffs. Its been too long.

  22. Who are the real Red Wings?

The first two-thirds of the season this team was competing for top of the Eastern Conference. Since then, they have been one of the worst (as we all unfortunately know). I’d argue that they are more the team they were for most of the season given the sample size, but if you extend this window to the past few seasons the trend of late season collapses is hard to ignore.

My point is I am curious where you all think this team actually is. Closer to the top or the bottom? In between or slightly above average or below average? What is your single biggest component of the team that contributes to your evaluation (e.g. power play or depth scoring)?

  23. So, March is over and today the Wings can officially start their late season heater and bring back hopes for the off season, right?

    RIGHT?!

  24. We need urgency in our game. I’m so sick of watching the wings dump the puck and loop it around the boards. It’s completely pointless if no one is going to the net. No more turbo mode in the last 5 minutes of the game. Show up. I can’t watch another mopey Larkin interview it’s just sad and he needs to rally this team together

  25. It seems like we’re getting a ton of new/infrequent posters coming out of the woodwork to post just completely insane takes. I can’t tell if they’re trolls or bots.

  26. If Cossa/Mazur are the only prospect that makes the wings next year, GR prospects would include:

Forwards – Bear, MBN, Kiiskinen, Danielson, Becher, Lombardi? James?….End of season Plante, Genborg (9 forwards)

Defenseman – ASP, AntJo, Buium, Wallinder? …. End of season Keenan (5 defense)

Goalie – Augustine, Postava (2 goalies)

That is a whole lot of prospects, with little room in Detroit.

  27. I honestly feel hopeless about this teams direction. In 5 years Someone like Kasper, Danielson or Nygard have to truly step up and fill Larkins shoes and I don’t see it in any of them. Let alone filling the 2C spot. Just rough out here. It’s gotten to the point I’m salty seeing Celebrini highlights
