The RedWings missed the playoffs last year because another team lost a bunch of games in OT 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ The league is broken
Good thing RWs and OTWs are worth the same amount of points then.
The kings also have the tied-fourth least regulation losses.
This has to be the lowest amount of regulation W’s for being a playoff contenders within a regular season by far
Good luck with Colorado in the first round, partner. It’s been nice the past few years. We’ll miss you.
Meanwhile in Atlantic it will be possible for a 100 point team to miss the playoffs 👀
(Unlikely, but mathematically possible for Ottawa if they were to go on a winning streak AND the 2nd wildcard Columbus were to also go on a streak with the remaining games left)
Any my Wild club who have been arguably one of the top 5 teams all year only have 26 regulation wins in 74 games
If they manage to pass Vegas (4pt gap LA has one game in hand), they could play Edmonton in the first round again.
Do it for Kopi!!
Screams from Atlantic teams
The loser point is so dumb
Such a bizarre season for the Pacific.
The NHL really needs to move to a three-point system to actually reward regulation wins over OT wins
The 8 seed versus Colorado in the first round is going to be an all time ass kicking
Oh come on!
Good . Us Oilers need to EAT
Simple fix – loser in OT gets NOTHING. You fucking lost so you don’t deserve a point. Will the NHL start handing out participation trophies?
Can we just end fhe extra point for an OTL or make it 3 points for a win.
We’re working on fixing that.
I hate teams getting playoff spots because they lose better than other teams.
What is this, the ‘80s & early ‘90s? The Pacific’s really giving old-school Snorris division vibes
If we clinch a playoff spot it’s a sheer miracle
They nearly have as many OT losses as regulation wins
Only 3 teams from the west would make the playoffs if they were in the East at this moment, and none of them are in the Pacific. The Ducks would be 1 point back of the wild card and the Wild would take the top wc spot.
Kings would be 4th last in the East, and Toronto would be fighting for a playoff spot in the West. It’s a very odd year.
It’ll be over quickly for them.
The Sens have 32 Regulation wins (tied for 6th most in the NHL) and might miss the playoffs entirely
The most “playoff hockey” outcome would be if they made it to June
This leagues structure is a sad joke..teams making it in that would finish last in other divisions…thus these divisions need to go, perhaps even the conferences…then Top 16, 1 plays 16 so forth…
Currently is missing from the lead statement. They have 4 teams within 3 points and have 8 games left to lose that spot. Good luck.
That’s actually kinda crazy
They are 31st in the league in regulation wins. Ahead of only the Canucks.
Nice, let’s go Kings!! And that would upgrade the third round pick they gave to the Leafs for Laughton to a second rounder.
lord i hate the overtime point format right now.
Based on my back of a napkin math, in a 3-2-1-0 point system, their point percentage would be 97 of a possible 222 through 74 games played, or 0.437%. League average through the same amount of games would be 111 of 222 or .500% of course.
On the flip side… Thy’ve only been defeated in regulation 26 times… best in the Pacific, 4th in the west, 10th in the league…
So there’s that as well.
I feel like the league is in too deep with the OTL point, scrapping that would be tough. But I’d 100% be onboard adopting the soccer system, make the win worth 3 instead of 2, leave the 1 for OTL.
