I’m hoping his agent can pull off a Bobby Bonilla type of contract so we can have Kirk Cousins day in the NFL.
I was an adamant Kirk supporter and even I can’t believe the contracts he’s gotten. Lol I mean the raiders contract is just $20 mil with the team option for two more years so it’s not a crazy number, but still.
I mean, realistically, he can thank Dan Snyder for being an idiot and not allowing our GM to sign him to the 5 year, $19mil per season deal that Kirk had agreed to.
Instead, Franchise tagging him for 3 straight seasons to pay him WAY more than that, and then getting the huge deal from the Vikings afterwards because his price tag had been driven up by the franchise tags.
I really don’t think Kirks agent had much to do with any of it other than the Falcons deal.
I understand the Vikings overpaying due to bidding wars, but after he got major hurt got a huge long term Falcons bag and still makes almost triple backup salary now is just nuts
Kirk is top 3 all time in career earnings. His biggest accomplishment is 4 Pro Bowls.
What if I told you . . .
This organization has historically made a lot of moves that really burn my ass, like fumbling away the opportunity to sign Kirk cousins for cheap only to eventually end up giving up assets to acquire a washed up Alex Smith
If he’s invested wisely, Cousins could probably own his own team.
I never thought he was that good. Just gonna be so honest lol the franchise tag blew my mind
No QB can win by themselves
Kirk has consistently been a top 12-15 QB for many years and that is just the market rate for that
Good for Kirk. I’ll always root for him. Him and Mendoza together is gonna be hilarious.
Shanny, after he got fired, said Kirk would win a Super Bowl in this league. There’s still time, Kirky!!
Great Clips haircut
And yet there are people in this subreddit to this day who will still insist Washington should have stuck it out with him.
Bet on yourself and perform
Dude continuously negotiated short deals to get big guaranteed money at the risk of losing it to injury or deteriorating play.
Then the Falcons gave him that deal despite the Achilles injury anyway.
Cousins has bet on himself and played well. I mean he played on two tags here, signed that 3-year deal in Minnesota, and then a 2-year extension, then 1-year extension. He just consistently put himself back in the front of the line in the free agent market at the risk of dud seasons costing him millions (which appears to have finally happened after Atlanta).
Just for example he could’ve *maybe* signed here for 5 years, $120m in 2018. Instead he went and earned $150m over those same five years.
Another unrelated but interesting fact. Ryan Tannehill made more than double the amount of money from the Titans than Derrick Henry. Tannehill played for them for 4 seasons, Derrick 8 seasons.
He got that nut
Pretty sure he doesn’t have an agent or is that the joke
Gotta love the franchise tag and guaranteed money!
If the Hall of Fame was by contract structure he’d get first ballot.
Guy keeps getting contracts

A bit of context. Kirk’s playoff record is 1-3 as a starter. Two of those losses were in Washington.
The worst loss is 2022 with MIN at home when the team went 13-4 . Kirk had a chance to tie the game at the end but couldn’t. But you can argue that the defense shit the bed much more in that game when they gave up 2 x 4th down conversion. Kirk wasn’t terrible in that game with 31/39 passing, 273 yds, 2 TD, no INT, no sacks.
Kirk could win on a good team. But yeah, he is way overpaid.
Good from him! He should be all of ours hero!
Elite stat padder getting paid.

For the record, the weird Kirk outcome is a combination of these things:
1. Being drafted by us and Snyder being a moron. We might have pulled something better together with him.
2. Going for the bag instead of seeking Super Bowls. No hate.
3. Getting paid so well that it weakened the teams he was on. (I don’t think this is a major factor.)
4. NFL teams are forced to overvalue good-not-great QBs. It’s so bad to have a terrible one.
5. Just luck. You only have to go on a short little run to look like a god-tier team in the playoffs.
6. High choke factor. I don’t know if there’s statistical evidence for this, but I have two eyes that work.
Kirk is a good QB but not great. You could think of him like a Joe Theismann or Brad Johnson. He can’t elevate a team like Jayden or Mahomes can but he can manage a team really well and could be the final piece that a team needs to go all the way. The problem is the teams overpay because of how important a QB is.

Crazy part is RG3 is younger than Kirk
Insane this guy could potentially make half a billion in his career with no Super Bowl appearances.
He’s a trash stat padding hack!
