[Garafolo] Chiefs Sign FA CB Kaiir Elam

  1. Isn’t this the guy that Buffalo reached for once we stole McDuffie from them? Hope we can turn him around here.

  2. Hilarious to remember this guy was the consolation prize for buffalo when we picked up McDuffie. He’s also only 24 so he’s got some juice left, could be an underrated move.

  3. I’m sure they did a ton of scouting on him before trading up to select McDuffie over him. Makes sense that they’d be interested now, even though he hasn’t shown much in the league.

  4. This is actually kinda funny – Elam was Buffalo’s consolation pick after we traded above them to take McDuffie. So in another world we took him at #23.

Instead, we got an All-Pro for 4 years, then traded him for 4 picks including #29 THIS year, and now we sign Elam as a depth piece at a “bust” price – and yes, Spags and Merrit will get the best out of him. Watch him blossom into a pro-bowler, hahahahaha!

  5. Florida DBs are great in college, sucks in the NFL (aside from Joe Haden)

  6. I thought it was still April Fool’s Day.

While I don’t see this being impactful I any way, it would be funny if the Chiefs were able to salvage him after the bust he was for the Bills.

  7. Bleh not really a huge fan of this one tbh but I guess maybe they just see him as a low depth chart option for a extra body

  8. He hasn’t been good but this has to be a zero risk type of move for KC.

If he somehow figures it out here and actually plays, not sure Bills fans will ever hear the end of it lol

  9. Man coming out of college I was high on him. I think Spags can rejuvenate this guy’s career.

  10. Not an exciting move, but solid. He’s got decent skills and has experience. Thankfully he’s only 24 and not 26. I’ll reserve judgement until we see what he costs. If he’s getting paid backup type money and we draft a solid CB (I think we are getting Delane) he’s more than serviceable as CB depth and a capable starter if needed.

  11. Signing Cowboys 2025 DBs that allowed 500 passing yards to the rotting corpse of Russell Wilson? It’s a bold strategy, Cotton.

  12. Love it as a free flyer for a guy that has had a rough go so far. Looked like he’d be a great fit in our defense when he was coming out

  13. I meannnnn he was a first round draft pick? His body of work is complete buns though. Barring something short of a miracle, this looks like a practice squad investment, right?

  14. This guy was brutal I remember chiefs just going after him and Hamlin in those playoff games it was an auto catch

  15. This dude is awful. He was a reach by the Bills and he wasn’t good for them, he wasn’t any good for the Cowboys either. Don’t like this signing at all. Hope he’s a camp body nothing more.

  16. Any chance he can convert to safety? Bc I don’t think even Merritt can turn this ship around at CB

  17. Bro obviously sucks but I’m not mad at a minimum deal. Basically no risk; all guys at that pay level suck so it’s not like we’re getting fleeced.

If he’s even slightly better than he has been, then that’s great for us. If not, easily cut w no issues. Low expectations.

  18. hopefully he turns it around but at the very least he’s a warm body which is better than we have now.

  19. If Spags and Merritt can’t get anything out of him then he truly is a lost cause.

  20. You need 53 on the roster and KC had 20+ leave the building. So you bring in a lot of guys, have them compete, cut some of them, practice squad some of them, maybe find a gem. After the draft, every team will make even more players available. During training camp/preseason, more available players.

The more a roster salary becomes top-heavy, the more roster turnover there is year-to-year. Free Agency is still phase 1 of 4 in player acquisition. I say all that to say that there will be more Elams coming in and out, but Veach could do much worse than a former 1st Round pick on the cheap. Buffalo doesn’t use the same defensive scheme as KC, either.

  21. I like it. Why not? Take a flyer on him and see if our coaching staff can get with the bills never could.

  22. He’s either gonna turn into a solid B level CB in our system, or he’s never gonna see the field once. No in between
