  3. If Faulk can’t go tomorrow I wonder who we call up from GR. ASP or someone else? ASP seems like the obvious choice.

  4. Ottawa plays Minny Saturday and Carolina Sunday. We play the Rags and then Minny.

    Sens have like 6 D injured. Have to make up ground this weekend

  5. Good morning wings fans! I really think we need Larkin with the dynamic duo:

    1-DeBrincat • Larkin • Kane
    2-Perron • Copp • Raymond
    3-Finnie • Kasper • Mazur
    4-JVR • Compher • Apples/Shine

    Larkin is not the force that can pull his teammates out there at the moment, so him with Apples makes no sense to me. He looks phenomenal with Kane & Cat everytime they’re on the ice together, they all have incredible chemistry.

  6. One game at a time. I know we need the game Saturday but I’ll be interested to see if we give Talbs the start. He’s been good when he’s come in, can’t play Gibby b2b again.

Playing in a deep dynasty fantasy league has really exposed me to a lot more players than I otherwise would just by watching the Wings and has helped tweak my views on which archetypes of players I would like to have on my team if I were running an NHL team. One of the things Colorado did well to become what they have was identifying and acquiring both Nichushkin and Lehkonen in trade as strout two-way wingers with enough skill to play anywhere in their top three lines. Kiefer Sherwood has made hitting popular again as a forward, but young guys like Will Cuylle and Emil Heineman hit a lot on the forecheck and can score too. Cuylle is 4th in hits while Heineman is 9th. Those two, along with Sherwood, are the only players in the top 10 of hits with 140+ shots and the only ones with double digit goals (17 for Cuylle and 21 for Heineman). We’ve got bigger fish to fry than support wingers, but finding or developing our own Cuylle/Heineman and Lehkonen/Nichushkin would go a long way towards helping make our team more consistent and competitive.

  16. I was very impressed watching Max Plante against Michigan last weekend. Once UMD was down in the third, he was willing his team back into the game.

  18. Depending on how hot he finishes the regular season, looks like Cat is going to be our first 40 goal scorer since…Hossa? Also we hadn’t had someone finish with 80 points(Zetterberg) since 2010-11 until Raymond last season and Cat just became the 2nd in a row. Hard to believe it has been that long.

  19. I know Yzerman has been criticized heavily on here for his FA signings but this team doesn’t have a snowballs chance right now without Gibby and Cat.

    Debrincat has been the only reliable goal scorer and Gibby standing on his head night in, night out.

I know the odds say we have an under 50% shot of making the playoffs but between all the Sens D injuries plus their schedule and CBJ having played 1 more game than us and us having the tie breaker on them our chances feel a lot higher on . Grant it the Sens have weathered the injuries but gotta think eventually it hurts them

  22. I enjoyed the Mark Howe interview on Ozzy and Keats this week. Near the end, Ozzy recalled a memory of Mark making a sliding block in the dying seconds of a must-win game late in the year. Mark joked he must have toe-picked to imply he wasn’t usually one for blocking shots. He then relayed Gordie’s thought on blocking shots of “if I’m in position to block the shot, then I’m not in position to stop the play” and that’s a great little tidbit that highlights why I think that blocked shots can be overrated at times. Lidstrom (in his later years when blocks were officially recorded) didn’t block many shots and it’s because he didn’t have to when he gapped well and could force the play wide or poke check the puck away from the attacker.

  23. Any stats people know the likelihood of the 6th place Atlantic team (no playoffs) having more points than 3rd in the Metro?

    Would add another layer to this stupid format beyond what’s happening out west 

  26. Any insight from Todd regarding Mazur being scratched last night? I’m all for throwing the lines in the blender considering the lack of spark as of late, but Appleton being promoted to the 1st line certainly made me roll my eyes.

    Did we get a postgame update on Faulk?

  27. Even with the win, I don’t want Appleton to remain on the top line. Larkin is obviously still injured and needs another gunner with him that can make up for his lack of speed right now. I wouldn’t be opposed to putting Kasper up there. Didn’t hate moving Raymond around to create more depth.

  29. sometimes, I forget how bad the tigers sub dooms. They lost a series because of overmanagement and trying to figure out proper deployments, mind you during a 162-game season, and those doomers call to sell the team and say everything is over.

    So they’ll either make the playoffs or won’t. (Obviously)

    But seriously I’m done trying to predict it.

    I’ll try to enjoy these final 7 games or hopefully more.
