Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg received just 20 1st Place votes for ROTY in ESPN’s Rookie of the Year Straw poll and Kon Knueppel of the Hornets received 80 1st Places in a landslide victory for ROTY based on the straw poll.

  2. Coop is top 5 in almost every statistical category and is only inferior to Kon in shooting and team success, so he deserves it IMO, but Kon has the narrative down so he’ll win it unfortunately. No one will care who won ROTY once their second season starts in October though anyways

    Kon has had an amazing season and the Hornets are one of the bigger surprises of the season. Narrative wise it makes sense.

    Still happy to have Coop.

  4. That foot sprain coupled with the run Kon went on during Coops absence pretty much killed Coops run at the award. 

  5. They’re going by team record obviously because Cooper Flagg is the better player. It’s all good. I knew he wasn’t gonna win it once they shipped AD to Washington since we are in full tank mode

  6. It’s all good, we build a proper team around Coop, and get him MVP when he’s 25.

  9. In 6 years, the same people currently pushing the Kon ROY narrative will then be on ESPN talking about how stupid it was that Cooper didn’t win it.

  10. So ridiculous. Luka doesn’t win MVP because “defense is 50% of the game” (Then Wemby should win imo)

    But when it’s about ROTY suddenly defense is not important anymore?

    Coop averages more points, rebounds, assists, blocks,… While creating everything for himself and having to deal with double teams and the other teams best defender.
    Kon has an incredible shooting season, but he’s playing with one of the best playmakers in the league.

  12. Kon deserves it. Consistent, high level role player for a decent team from day 1. Elite 4th option already.

    I’ll sleep well at night knowing we have a generational, number 1 option at 19 years old.

  13. Do I think Coop is Rookie of the Year, sure: but it’s also hard to get bent out of shape over this based on how the seasons went for each.

  16. If anything this will be fuel for Coop to lock in his jumper this off season. Will mean nothing in the long run. We all know he’s an absolute monster and can do it all.

    Just gotta get him some help for the love of God 🙏
