Dallas Cowboys Draft A Quarterback?! The Next Dak? + QB Breakdowns | Doin’ Alright Draft Edition

Episode 134: Bryan Broaddus is back alongside Voch Lombardi to break down the latest NFL Draft buzz. Voch dives into a mock draft from Matt Miller, where Dallas used its first three picks on defense before making a 180-degree turn and going all offense to wrap up the draft. In this scenario, they even selected a quarterback in the later rounds. Is that a realistic possibility for Dallas? It’s Quarterback Friday as Bryan and Voch put a bow on their QB breakdowns with their final four prospects. Voch kicks things off with North Dakota State quarterback Cole Payton, making the case for why Payton could be the next Dak Prescott. Next, Bryan breaks down his favorite fifth-round quarterback, Georgia Tech’s Haynes King, explaining how his toughness and experience make him an intriguing prospect. The episode wraps up with the final two quarterback evaluations: Baylor’s Sawyer Robertson and Illinois’ Luke Altmyer.

  1. Missing a few prospect reviews on your big board that are worthy:

    Zxavian Harris, DT Ole Miss
    Dametrious Crownover, OT Texas A&M
    Keagen Trost, OT/G Mizzou
Trey Zuhn III, OG/C Texas A&M
    Oscar Delp, TE Georgia
    Josh Cuevas, TE Alabama
    De'Zhaun Stribbling, WR Ole Miss

  2. The breakeven point in terms of the monetary value of a draft pick and what you pay the average backup QB is at pick 144. So pick 152 or later for the Cowboys.

Also, have you guys seen the G/C Matt Gulbin from Mich State?

  3. BPA! You can always trade great, good, and competent players for the same in return. Teams lose players to injury through camp up to the trade deadline. If you have some good extras on offense because you drafted BPA, you can always get a good extra defensive player or a decent draft pick in exchange.

  4. Let's not fool ourselves. The year they drafted Dak, they were all about drafting Paxton Lynch.. until Denver took him ahead of them. Dak was nothing more than an afterthought.

  5. I don’t care I don’t want to hear about no Quarterback who we comparing to Dak…all respect to Dak but to help that type QB we need a top 5 defense..so who cares about a 4th rounder

  6. This team needs to be all in on Defensive line and CB Dak will be gone in 3 maybe 4 years..young QB coming in here that needs a defense that been creating pressure and turnovers together the last couple seasons..I much rather that

  7. Beck over Ty Simpson is crazy business… Beck does nothing as a passer better than TY. Nothing. Simpson wowed me with his arm and rhythm the first time I saw him, and they were getting killed in the game. I saw an NFL QB. Now maybe he needed to go back and get another 13-14 starts. But Beck never looked like a pro to me. Average arm, average or worse deep ball and intermediate accuracy, terrible demeanor and consistency. But he will run and take the hit for some yards. For him to play so many games and still look that bad shows he has zero chance on the NFL level.

  8. A stab at QB isn't always the worst buuuut you have 2 "development" qbs. Idk how many reps a 4th QB would get. I'd rather take a kicker and sign Texas undrafted QB Matthew Caldwell as a UDFA.

  9. I don't mind the idea of "let's draft a qb every year" just so you can develop and trade them every year or two.

However since we need alot of help i would rather not try for a random bust qb this year.

Last year would have been a good year to draft a qb. Then we could have traded him for picks and prolly got another qb to develop and flip for picks.

I think a qb would be a waste. But that's just my opinion.

I think come middle of next season wwe will have a random group of injuries and we will be like man I sure wish we took another lineman etc

  10. Hopefully if y'all read the comments 😉 a few names to look at are Tyler Onyedim 4i – George Gumbs Jr OLB – Jake Kelly MLB – Lander Barton WLB – Xavier Nwankpa SAF & Isiah Nwokobia SAF as day 3 prospects

  11. If you want to win a Superbowl take this years resources and try to get Vegas to give you Mendoza. This is not a good draftclass and the way the Cowboys drafted lately it will give you more Mazis and Tacos. Prescott is like Romo. Never will win you a SB no matter how good the team is. Mendoza is the next Montana. Don't know how, but somehow include Prescott in the trade. It has been too long to sit around and wait for Prescott's contract to end.

  12. Prescott was never a good thrower. There were lots of jokes about that when he was drafted, remember? He was a good mobile QB with an excellent RB behind him. After the Atlanta game he wasn't the same. Now he's just an old QB who throws Ints at the worst possible times. Prescott in his first 3 years won the games late. Now he doesn't.

  13. I have always thought that drafting a QB EVERY year was a waste of a draft pick. Maybe, once every other year or every three years, then yes. I would draft a running back every third year, definitely. The Cowboys should have a "football life actuary table" for each position and then draft accordingly! This question of mine was never answered, which is okay, but the Cowboys have been "average" when it came to drafting past the first round. Sure, they have hit on several players, but for the most part, it has been more misses than hits. And then, if it is a hit, the Cowboys let the player move on, which in some cases is fine, but in some cases (Lewis) is not. If my premise about the Cowboys' FO drafting capability is correct, at what point does the Cowboys' FO look at the scouts? Lastly, as I listened to your program, I recalled a statement Bryan B. made many years ago: "The Cowboys (coaches) waste Cowboys players' careers." (Paraphrase). So, I am wondering once this year's draft is over and the Cowboys hype machine begins, and then the player doesn't play the first year…okay, it happens, but then the second year, and then the third year, and YET, the player is still on the team. So call me a jaded Cowboys fan from the mid-1960's. Still have hope in Schotty, so will see…Go Cowboys!

  14. What a lot of people don't think about with the Dak pick too was Scott Linehan and his connections with Dan Mullen/Urban Meyer. Linehan mentored Mullen and Meyer on the spread offense, so when Dak came to town he likely had a very good understanding of the concepts and terminology.
