The Kansas City Chiefs reached an agreement to sign veteran cornerback Kaiir Elam today, adding a former first-round pick to a secondary that has seen significant turnover this offseason. The move comes as a direct response to the departures of All-Pro Trent McDuffie (traded to the Rams) and Jaylen Watson (signed with the Rams in free agency).
Elam, 24, was the 23rd overall pick for the Buffalo Bills in 2022 but has had a nomadic path recently. After three seasons in Buffalo, he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in March 2025. Following a stint there where he started seven games, he was waived in November and finished the 2025 season with the Tennessee Titans. He joins a room that currently features Kristian Fulton and recent free-agent addition Kader Kohou.
In terms of physical profile, Elam is a “Spags Prototype.” At 6’1″ and 191 lbs with 33-inch arms and 4.39 speed, he possesses the length and recovery quickness that Steve Spagnuolo prioritizes.
