Luke Shaw couldn’t resist a cheeky dig at Alejandro Garnacho after Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Chelsea on Saturday night.
The Red Devils moved a huge step towards securing qualification for next season’s Champions League thanks to Matheus Cunha’s goal on the stroke of half-time. The result at Stamford Bridge leaves United third in the Premier League table on 58 points with only five fixtures remaining.
It was difficult night for Garnacho, previously ranked as one of the world’s best young players, who walked away from Man Utd last summer. The 21-year-old Argentine started the match on the substitutes’ bench but was called into action after just 16 minutes when Estevao suffered an injury.
As anticipated, Garnacho received a hostile reception from the travelling United supporters, who booed and jeered his every touch. The winger struggled to make an impact against Diogo Dalot and lost possession 15 times.

Bruno Responds to Shaw’s Garnacho Post

Bruno Fernandes and his Man Utd teammates
However, it appears his former Manchester United teammates have little sympathy for him. Luke Shaw posted a photo of Garnacho falling over alongside the caption: “Important win”.
A number of Shaw’s current teammates joined in with the fun, including Joshua Zirkzee, Shea Lacey and Tyler Fletcher.
The club captain Bruno Fernandes, who notched his 18th Premier League assist of the season against Garnacho’s side, added a meme with a caption that reads: “That’s a violation”.
Saturday night’s game at Stamford Bridge was an opportunity for Garnacho to show what Man Utd are missing, but the evening couldn’t have gone much worse for the Madrid-born forward.
Chelsea’s hopes of securing a top-five finish and Champions League football for next season also suffered a major blow. The Blues find themselves in sixth spot, four points behind fifth-placed Liverpool who have a game in hand.
Carrick Speaks After Man Utd Beat Chelsea

Michael Carrick
However, it was another excellent night for Michael Carrick, the frontrunner to land the Manchester United job on a full-time basis this summer. His players responded in style following Monday’s shock 2-1 home defeat to Leeds United.
“First of all on Monday night, you can lose games of football. The world doesn’t end because you lose a game, so we were fine – we learned from things and we spoke about a few things, but that’s football,” Carrick told reporters after the win over Chelsea. “The league is what it is. I think you see that, there’s results all over the place in different ways.
“We weren’t getting too down about that at all. I think if anything, we looked at it and thought, you know, I think we’re right near the top, if not top of the last 12 games. We took a lot of confidence from that. We knew what this game was. We didn’t overplay it, if anything, we didn’t speak about positions or points. It was just coming down here to win a game and commit to that, and then the boys definitely did that.”
