Kelsey Mitchell has revealed what she told Indiana Fever teammates Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston after the team’s WNBA defeat to the Dallas Wings.

The Fever got off to a losing start in the 2026 WNBA season, with the Wings running out 107-104 winners in Indiana’s backyard. Mitchell, 30, who has been a mainstay in the Fever team since being drafted second overall in 2018, scored a game-high 30 points, while Boston notched 23, and Clark scooped up 20.

Still, despite the defeat, optimism is high in the Fever locker room for the remainder of the 2026 WNBA season. Clark described the mood as “positive” despite tasting defeat on her WNBA return from injury.

WNBA veteran Mitchell has echoed Clark’s sentiment. “I’m excited about where our group is going. Like I told CC (Caitlin Clark) and AB (Aliyah Boston), I’m going to rock and roll with them for as long as we’re going to do this,” Mitchell said.

“Yeah, I feel good. Started off a little slow, I think, just the anxiety of the first game, you know, trying to work through that. But overall, I felt good, felt fast out there,” Mitchell said on her own performance.

“Felt like I was literally a couple buckets away from putting together a really, really good game and helping us win, but our offense is obviously not the issue.

“We’re perfectly fine on offense, and there’s still so many things we can do better on that end of the floor, but, I mean, you’ve got to give Dallas credit. They’re really good.

“You know, they shot the ball incredibly well. Really, the only quarter we put together was the third, I guess, and the fourth, we were fouling, so, but, you know, figured it out a little bit there in the third.

“We just got to be able to do that a little more consistently, but it was a great test. It was a great game. You know, our locker room was positive afterward, so we’re not going to hang our heads.

“We’re going to move forward. A lot to be proud of and a lot to learn from, too, so it was only 1 of 44. We’ve got a long way to go.”

The Fever play Game 2 of 2026 against the Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday night. Indiana will make the trip to the West Coast before heading back home to take on the Washington Mystics on Friday night.

Head coach Stephanie White has called on her team to be more disciplined on defense. “We’ve got to be more disciplined,” White said. “The difference in their uncontested looks from three compared to our contested looks was significant.

“Sometimes we over-rotated when we didn’t need to. Sometimes we had coverage breakdowns.

“We gave up too much in transition and fouled too many shooters. Those are all detail-oriented things that are correctable.”
