(WHSV) – A trio of high school baseball programs in the Potomac Valley experienced trips of a lifetime.
The Pendleton County and Moorefield High baseball teams traveled to Cooperstown, New York, to play in a tournament at Doubleday Field. In addition, the Wildcats toured the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
Pendleton County head coach Sam Yokum told WHSV it is a tradition for the program to play at Doubleday Field once every four years.
Senior Chase Owens was in awe of his time in Cooperstown.
“The field. It’s special,” Owens said. “As soon as you got there, it was a different feeling. The field was really special. It was awesome to play on.”
As for visiting the Hall of Fame, Owens said it was an experience he will never forget.
“That was a really cool experience, seeing all the different stuff throughout the museum. It was really cool.”
Owens said his favorite part was seeing memorabilia from Mickey Mantle.
In addition, the Petersburg High baseball team played Keyser at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, home of Major League Baseball’s Pittsburgh Pirates. The Vikings won 6-0.
