As men lost at sea, the Golden State Warriors and Giannis Antetokounmpo have been floating aimlessly over the last few seasons, watching the entire NBA pass them by.
The Warriors have tried their hardest to ensure their resident superstar, Stephen Curry, will continue to play in meaningful basketball games in the twilight of his career. Yet, the results have shown the complete opposite, as they have failed to enter the postseason in two of the last three seasons.

The same can be said for Giannis. After leading the Bucks to the promised land in 2021, the franchise tried to create an environment that would give him the best chance of winning more titles, even acquiring All-Star Damian Lillard at one point.
However, they failed to make it past the first round in three straight years and hit a low point this season, winning just 32 games and failing to even sniff the Play-In Tournament.
Now, with Giannis’ relationship with the Bucks already untenable, the team he has played for 12 years has now put him on the trading block. And according to former All-Star forward Chris Webber, a marriage with the Warriors will offer him the best shot at adding a ring or two.

The obvious fit
Giannis has, time and again, reiterated that he doesn’t want his career to end with just one ring. It’s painfully clear that the Bucks do not have a title-contending team, which means Giannis must move somewhere else to compete for championships. C-Webb stressed the ideal destination for the Greek Freak.
“I think the most obvious fit is the Golden State Warriors, right?” Webber said in a talk with veteran broadcaster Rich Eisen.
“You know, Giannis Antetokounmpo on the West Coast, where the game is faster — you’re going to have to build a wall for him on every play,” Webber continued.

“That may just be an unstoppable combination with him in the post and the way they play under Steve Kerr and then having the best shooter ever, Stephen Curry, out there doing his thing,” Giannis emphasized.
On paper, this could be a terrifying pairing for the rest of the league. With Curry’s proficiency from the outside giving Antetokounmpo all the room he needs to deal damage inside the shaded lane, the Warriors could, provided they add a few more viable pieces, return to the NBA’s mountaintop.
Easier said than done
C-Webb isn’t the first to recommend Giannis going to the Warriors. Former NBA champion Iman Shumpert also spoke about the possibility, saying Giannis and Steph are suited for one another. A substantial reason for this is that Steph doesn’t play like a traditional superstar who needs the ball in his hands to be effective.

In fact, he’s more dangerous when he gives the ball up and starts navigating screens set by his teammates, as the defense can’t afford not to react, thereby giving the other Warriors open looks at the basket.
“I would love Giannis to become a Golden State Warrior,” Shump said. “Steph Curry, coming up at the end of his career, is a guy who can’t have too much on his shoulders. But when you think about Giannis, Giannis is a guy like KD who needs someone to assist him with decision-making down the stretch.”
Making this team-up into a reality, though, is a lot easier said than done since the Bucks would likely demand young, talented players and draft picks in return if they were to trade Giannis to the Warriors — things the Warriors do not have a lot of.
