The new question for the Minnesota Timberwolves has surfaced: “Is this roster’s championship window closed?” They got molly whopped by the San Antonio Spurs in six games and could not find any answers for Victor Wembanyama. Despite all of this doubt bestowed upon the team who made two Western Confernce Finals prior to the 2026 NBA Playoffs, Rudy Gobert still has a lot of faith. He even outlined how they are all thinking as of the moment.

Gobert unveils Timberwolves’ mindset after NBA Playoffs elimination
Getting beaten down 139-109 in the NBA Playoffs is not at all a nice experience. Adding in the fact that it was a win-or-go-home game for the Timberwolves made it more rough. So, Rudy Gobert made his post-game press conference after getting eliminated by the Spurs very simple. He admitted that Victor Wembanyama had the better team and that the Timberwolves will have to evaluate their losses more, via Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.
“I think they were the better team. We feel like we had a chance to beat these guys. But when it came down to the court, they clearly outplayed us in three games. Now it’s about looking at why and understanding why,” Gobert said.
This NBA Playoffs series was not at all close despite having gone to six games. When the Timberwolves won, the margin on the score was either just two or five points. The Spurs, on the other hand, removed all breathing room for Coach Chris Finch and Co. during their triumphs. Game 3 was the least devastating loss for the Timberwolves in this NBA Playoffs series because they only lost by seven. It only got worse from there. Everything culminated in a 30-point beatdown that had Anthony Edwards shaking hands with his opponents while there was still eight minutes left on the game clock.

Gobert’s offensive improvement with the Timberwolves will be an indicator of whether they can contend with the Spurs in future years. Throughout Games 5 and 6, he only managed to score a whopping total of four points. If he manages to average double-digit points while also keeping up with Wembanyama on defense, their championship window is still wide open in future iterations of the NBA Playoffs.
