The New York Yankees have had plenty of success with Japanese stars coming to wear the pinstripes.

They’re looking into the possibility that Teruaki Sato could be next.

Multiple reports indicated the Yankees were one of a handful of teams that headed to Japan recently to check out the slugging superstar.

He hit 40 home runs last season and is already batting .372 in 2026. Sato has a powerful left-handed swing and can be a free agent after this season.

Sato just turned 27 years old in March and is listed as 6-foot-1 and 207 pounds.

He’s played at the major league level in Japan since he was 22 years old, and he has 136 home runs in 703 games in Nippon Professional Baseball. Sato has a career .842 OPS in NPB.

This spring, Sato also suited up for Japan at the World Baseball Classic for the first time. He was 3-for-10, with all three hits being doubles.

Sato has played just third base for the Hanshin Tigers in 2026, but he does have a bit of professional experience in right field, too.

The Yankees won’t be alone in their pursuit if Sato does indeed try to come to MLB after this season, but it certainly seems they’ll be involved.
