New York Knicks fans three months ago were posting their trade offers for Giannis Antetokounmpo across social media, wondering what combination of players and draft capital could get the multi-time MVP to the Big Apple for a run at the NBA Finals.

Well, there’s no more running needed, as Antetokounmpo is at home still a member of the Milwaukee Bucks, while the Knicks are awaiting a Western Conference final Game 7 between the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs to see who they’ll play in the championship round.

Without making that major trade for the “Greek Freak,” the Knicks are four wins away from winning their first NBA championship in over 50 years.

But win or lose come June, should the Knicks still seek a possible trade for Antetokounmpo in the offseason?

The Knicks were reportedly his favored team heading into the season, and with New York showing they can reach the NBA Finals, it would only entice Antetokounmpo further to sign a long-term extension at Madison Square Garden.

New York’s roster will never have a higher value than after these playoffs, but should they even think about breaking up a core that, statistically, is playing some of the best basketball in NBA history?

Would you trade Karl-Anthony Towns for Antetokounmpo?

What about OG Anunoby and Josh Hart for him?

In an alternate reality, the Knicks could shave off their depth and go into the new season with a starring trio of Jalen Brunson, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Karl-Anthony Towns.

While that seemed like a dream scenario not too long ago, the reason the Knicks have been so dangerous in this postseason run has been the likes of Anunoby, Hart, and Mikal Bridges coming up big time and time again when called upon.

Depth is the most coveted thing in this new era of the NBA, where the second apron tax will force the most well-built teams to make tough decisions every offseason. While Antetokounmpo, Brunson, and Towns’ “Big 3” is intriguing, we saw how well that ended for the Phoenix Suns when they blew up everything to get an aging Kevin Durant in the building to play with Devin Booker and Bradley Beal.

Let the Houston Rockets or Miami Heat throw their entire depth and future of the franchise at Milwaukee to get Antetokounmpo. If you’re New York, you’re on the right path, and even if that ends up in heartbreak, this core deserves another run together next campaign.
