Once again, the Philadelphia Phillies need to add some outfield help at the trade deadline. Just as was the case the last few seasons, the Phillies have a big outfield need this year.

There are some big-fish trade targets, like Mike Trout and Byron Buxton, who would be the most fun to acquire. But, in reality, those two will be hard to acquire. There are some other options they could go after.

Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report linked the Phillies to three other outfield options worth considering. However, all three of these outfielders wouldn’t actually fix the big issue with the Phillies: their lack of right-handed hitters.

“Maybe it’s Riley Greene if the Tigers are throwing in the towel for the foreseeable future,” Miller writes. Or Boston‘s Jarren Duran, regardless of whether the Red Sox are buying or selling. It might be Colorado‘s Mickey Moniak…”

All three outfielders wouldn’t be bad trade deadline pickups in a vacuum at all. Moniak is a bit risky compared to the other two, but he had a .942 OPS before landing on the injured list and would make for a fun reunion with Philadelphia.

Duran has been better lately, and even though his .695 OPS isn’t great, it’s better than most of the Phillies outfield right now outside of Brandon Marsh.

Greene would be incredible, as he has a .309 average with an .849 OPS this season while being under club control through the 2028 season.

But, there is one big issue with all three of these hitters: Duran, Moniak, and Green are all left-handed hitters.

The Phillies need better right-handed batters, as their lefties are perfectly fine. But Trea Turner, Alec Bohm, J.T. Realmuto, and especially Adolis Garcia have been bad this season.

Adding a left-handed hitting outfielder wouldn’t fix the big issue for the Phillies, that being their lack of offense from their right-handed hitters.

Sure, Greene, Duran, or Moniak would be a nice pickup. But, in reality, the Phillies need to target right-handed hitters, not another lefty.
