WASHINGTON (TNND) — Maryland Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin asked a witness during a hearing if the Department of Justice’s investigation into the NFL was just performance art for media titan Rupert Murdoch.

“The NFL has said they’ve received no outreach from the DOJ about an investigation that was supposedly open months ago into the NFL,” Raskin said during a hearing. “Does that suggest the DOJ is actually doing their job for consumers or is all of this just some sort of performance art or posturing for Mr. Murdoch?”

OutKick Media President Clay Travis responded to the question and said he wasn’t an expert in investigations.

“I would hope personally that that the Department of Justice is actually looking into this on the basis of the 1961 law and on the foundational idea across the political spectrum of sports fans should get good value and not a degraded experience that they are currently receiving across so many different sports,” Travis answered.

Travis was one of four witnesses on a House Judiciary panel that was asked about the impact of the Sports Broadcasting Act from 1961.

The Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961 limits anti-trust immunity to NFL teams to negotiate contracts with broadcast television networks.

Raskin’s questioning about Murdoch came after a report last month that the NFL was getting backlash due to allegations that President Donald Trump lobbied to protect FOX Sports, which is controlled by the Murdoch family.
