Wimbledon have announced a staggering £10.7million rise in prize money for this year’s Championships, bringing the total pot to £64.2million.
Prize money has been a hot topic in recent months, as a group of top players – including Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka – have been calling on the Grand Slam tournaments to allocate 22 per cent of revenue to prize money.
Some of these players protested at the French Open by limiting their pre-tournament press conferences to just 15 minutes.
While the All England Club has not met this figure, they hope the large increase will prevent any action.
This year’s total main draw prize money purse for the gentlemen’s and ladies’ singles events sits at £47.2million, up 22 per cent from last year.
The singles champions will take home £3.6million – £600,000 more than in 2025 – while those who lose in the first round are guaranteed £80k.
The total qualifying prize pot has also risen 25 per cent to £6.2million.
AELTC chair Deborah Jevans said: “We’ve always been clear that we’re on the side of the players, in the sense that we want to have a fantastic Wimbledon for them.
“But using revenue to determine prize money, it just makes no sense, and we have said that to Larry Scott. Revenue does not take into account the investments that we make.
“We’re not-for-profit, everything goes back into the sport. So I am frustrated that that message hasn’t gotten across.”
