WEST HARTFORD — Geno Auriemma has a big spot to fill on his UConn coaching staff. and while Jamelle Elliott is unique, he is optimistic about finding another quality coach.

“Jamelle has been kind of looking for the next thing, what’s the next challenge,” Auriemma said, before his annual charity golf event. “More than half her life has been spent up here, a lot of championships. We’re going to miss her personality, her incredibly positive outlook. her work ethic. There are a lot of things that are part of that job and she was good at all of them.”

Elliott, who played at UConn in the mid-1990s and coached in different stints since, left last week.to pursue opportunities outside of coaching. Auriemma said her replacement does not necessarily have to be someone with UConn ties.

With summer practices underway, UConn is waiting for one recruit, Marine Dursus, to arrive from France, once the paperwork on her end is settled. Others are on campus working.

Jovana Popovic from Europe has made an impression.

“She doesn’t seem fazed,” Auriemma said. “She’s got a really, really good way about her.”
