Samantha Busch shared the ways she believes her late husband Kyle is “letting me know he’s okay” three weeks after his death at age 41.
On Tuesday, June 16, Samantha said, “One of the greatest gifts these past few weeks has been hearing people’s stories about Kyle. Every memory, photo, and message has helped me feel connected to Kyle in ways I can’t fully explain and made me want to share some moments that brought me comfort over these unimaginably hard weeks,” in a post on Instagram.
Alongside a photo of the late NASCAR star’s sandals, the mother of two wrote, “After Brexton’s birthday party, Kyle had kicked off his sandals in our bathroom, and we never moved them. About a week after he passed, I had one of the hardest nights yet. Most of the night, I spent sobbing, wishing I could feel his arms wrapped around me one more time. I finally gave up on sleeping and walked into our bathroom. There, shining directly across Kyle’s sandals, was a rainbow.”
Samantha said the rainbow was isolated to just Kyle’s sandals. “I literally laid down on them and felt a bit of peace, like he was giving me a sign,” she wrote, noting that she understands “exactly how it happened scientifically” for the rainbow to form. “But we’ve lived in this house for over 10 years,” Samantha continued. “I’ve been awake at every hour imaginable, through every season and all kinds of weather, and I have never once seen a rainbow appear here. And for anyone wondering, this photo hasn’t been edited or enhanced at all. The rainbow was truly that bright and vibrant.”
Samantha said she experienced a second moment that had her feeling like her late husband was giving her a sign while she was at church. “For the first time since I’ve ever attended, a bird was flying around during the entire service. At one point, it flew over to where I was sitting, titled its head sideways, looked right at me, and then flew away,” Samantha said.

“Later, while everyone was praying, I kept hearing a noise and thought someone’s phone was going off. I opened my eyes, and it wasn’t a phone. The bird was right by my feet, hopping along before disappearing around the corner. I know some people will say it was just a bird and just a rainbow. Maybe they’re right. But standing in the same church where we said goodbye to Kyle a few days earlier, and carrying a grief that still doesn’t feel real most days, it felt like more than a coincidence to me,” she wrote.
Samantha concluded her post writing, “It feels like God is reminding me that I’m not alone and that Kyle is letting me know he’s okay, that he’s close, and that somehow he’s still walking beside us.”
Samantha and Kyle welcomed their first child, Brexton Locke, on May 18, 2015. Their daughter, Lennix Key, was born on May 10, 2022.
The NASCAR star died on May 21, hours after the family announced he was hospitalized with a “severe illness.” Samantha broke her silence on June 5, writing, “As a family, we wanted to take a moment to say thank you. The prayers, messages, flowers, meals, hugs, and countless acts of kindness have carried us through the most heartbreaking days of our lives. While our hearts are absolutely shattered, we have felt God’s presence and arms wrapped tightly around us through each and every one of you.”

Samantha continued, “The love that has surrounded our family during this unimaginable time has brought comfort in the middle of so much pain. Knowing the impact Kyle had on others and seeing how they are honoring him through each unique act of generosity is a true testament to how special Kyle is to so many people. There are moments when the weight of this loss feels impossible to carry, yet time and time again God, through you all, has shown us we are not alone. From family and friends to fans and complete strangers, thank you for showing up for us. Thank you for loving our family so well.”
She concluded her post by thanking the community for “loving Kyle” and “for honoring him.”
“We may never find the words to fully express what your support has meant to us, but please know that we are deeply grateful,” she wrote.
