The Vermont Green FC women’s soccer team had a historic scoring night at Virtue Field. The Green set a single game club record 10 goals in a single game leading to a 10-0 shutout victory against AC Connecticut. “It puts our name out there,” said Vermont Green midfielder Louisa Thomsen. “We’ve had some 1-1 ties and low scoring games, but I think we really made a statement. We know how to score and we can do it.”The Green erupted for six first half goals, backed by the Waterbury, VT native Thomsen who contributed on a couple of scores in her first ever start with VGFC. She assisted Olivia Grenda on the team’s second goal of the game and then scored the team’s sixth and her first career VGFC goal on a corner kick assist to put her squad up 6-0 at halftime. “It was the best feeling in the world,” Thomsen said. “I feel so thankful to have the opportunity to play for this club with all my family and friends watching and supporting tonight. It’s just irreplaceable. It’s really amazing.”Hosane Soukou then scored a pair of goals in the second half to help Vermont finish with their 10-0 victory. Nine different goal scorers help Vermont pick up a needed three points as they will look to try to lock up the USL W Northeast Division title with a win against Hartford Athletic next week. “We had the blinders on today. It was all about getting the three points,” said VGFC women’s soccer head coach Abby Carchio. “We got that done, now we reset our focus on the match this Monday. We’ve got a lot of prep to do.”Kickoff against the Athletic is on Monday, June 22 at 7 p.m. at Virtue Field for the Green’s final home regular season game.
