Gigem 247’s Jeff Tarpley appeared with host Glenn “Stretch” Smith on The Afternoon Stretch via ESPN Central Texas out of Waco to talk about the issues surrounding Texas Tech and former quarterback Brendan Sorsby who declared for the NFL’s 2026 Supplemental Draft. Smith noted that he and Tarp had talked about Sorsby winning an injunction against the NCAA just last week so that he could play this fall and how a week later Tech and Sorsby were parting ways. Smith asked, “In your mind, is this the best way to kind of feel good for all parties, all things considering and giving him a chance to go get himself in the supplemental draft?”

I think he probably would have gone into the NFL draft originally, given where he was supposed to be selected. Remember, there were people that thought he might be a late first-rounder and more than likely a second-round pick. Tech put so much money on the table and probably guaranteed money that it was really, really hard for him to sit there and gamble on the NFL, so to speak, and put his NFL career off a year.

Another item that comes into play is that…and you’ve heard this before… what did they know and when did they know it? I think the same thing applies here. You know, when did Tech know about his issues?
