The Vermont Green Football Club men’s soccer team bounced back in a big way after picking up its first draw in USL 2 Northeast Division play on Tuesday, June 16. VGFC scored a new club single-game season-high of 10 goals in a 10-1 rout against Boston City FC. The Green’s previous single-season mark was nine goals in a 9-0 shutout win against the Albany Rush. “We told the guys you need to run,” said Vermont Green FC men’s soccer head coach Chris Taylor. “There’s a responsibility to play for this crowd and everyone here that you’ve got to run, and I thought the running was fantastic tonight.”Seven different Green players got in the scoring column in the win, including Jeremy Francou and David Ajagbe, who each scored a pair of goals. Francou, who was recognized as VGFC’s man of the match, was honored to represent his team the best way he could on both sides of the ball. “It’s great to be able to help the team as best as I can,” Francou said. “That’s a great feeling, scoring a couple of goals and hearing the crowd. It was great to win this game.”Vermont Green still remains unbeaten in USL 2 league play with an 8-0-1 overall record. A shot for a second straight Northeast Division title looms in the distance, but Taylor knows there is still work to be done to achieve that goal. “I think we’ve got ways to go to be honest,” Taylor said. “You can see we’re young at times. We have moments in games where we drop off where we can’t drop off … we still got a few levels to go to scale the heights up.”Vermont will run it back against Boston when the two squads rematch on Tuesday, June 23 at 7 p.m. in Malden, Massachusetts.
