Gigem 247’s Jeff Tarpley appeared with host Glenn “Stretch” Smith on The Afternoon Stretch via ESPN Central Texas out of Waco to talk about the issues surrounding Texas Tech and former quarterback Brendan Sorsby who declared for the NFL’s 2026 Supplemental Draft this week. Smith said “I know Jeff’s an SEC guy, but he’s also a college football guy. I think it’s so important to ask him that you see the NCAA, they can’t win a court case to save their life, but how much respect did you gain for the Big 12 for the fact that they stepped up and said we’re as a league going to hold this institution accountable?”

I think it just speaks to the seriousness of the situation that the Big 12 pulled itself together and said, “If we can’t get this squared away, then anything is on the table in regard to college football in terms of the structure, the rules, the ethics, everything”.

Like I said earlier (in the segment), there are a lot of gray areas when it comes to college athletics…..off the field stuff on coaches and players, eligibility issues, the disparity in money between leagues and institutions. But more than anything else, the Big 12 simply said “This is just so bad. This is Armageddon. This is the tipping point. We have to do something.”
