Could the Mavericks add one of his former players next?

Dallas holds two first-round picks in Tuesday’s NBA draft, No. 9 and No. 30. Three former Michigan players — Aday Mara, Morez Johnson Jr. and Yaxel Lendeborg — are projected first-round picks, mostly in and just outside of the lottery range.

Here is what to know about each of Michigan’s first-round draft prospects who could be available when the Mavericks are on the clock Tuesday.

Mara had a breakout season with the Wolverines in their championship season last year. He averaged career highs across the board, putting up 12.1 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.6 blocks in just over 23 minutes per game. While he didn’t attempt many threes in college, he showed his ability to score from beyond the arc, hitting three of his 10 attempts last year.

Mara has been projected around the top 10 in multiple mock drafts.

With the Mavericks reportedly shopping Daniel Gafford, they could look to bolster their center position with Mara. It also wouldn’t hurt for Dallas to have more size to compete with in-state rival San Antonio and 7-4 center Victor Wembanyama, who is fresh off his first Finals appearance.

Of the three Michigan prospects, Johnson has probably raised his stock the most. After an impressive NBA combine, Johnson went from a projected late first-round pick to a mid-first-round projection. Some mocks have Johnson in and around the lottery.

Johnson averaged 13.1 points and 7.3 rebounds in 25 minutes per game.

If the Mavs select Johnson, he could pair with reigning NBA Rookie of the Year Cooper Flagg to give Dallas more size in its frontcourt.

Lendeborg, set to turn 24 before next season, appears to be the most NBA-ready of the Michigan prospects.

Lendeborg was a First-Team All-American last season with Michigan, averaging 15.1 points and 6.8 rebounds while shooting 51.5% from the floor and 37.2% from three.

Like Johnson, Lendeborg could pair with Flagg in the frontcourt while providing the Mavs with more outside shooting.

Chancellor Johnson asked Lendeborg about the possibility of joining his former head coach May in Dallas on Monday.

“I’m going to tell him he better pick me up, if he doesn’t I’m going to block him,” Lendeborg said. “It would be amazing, being able to stick with him.”
