The Boston Celtics didn’t make any big splashes during Round 1 of the 2026 NBA Draft. Instead, they stood pat and made their selection at No. 27 overall.

While Jaylen Brown trade rumors continued to float around, the Celtics used their first-round pick to select Houston forward Chris Cenac Jr.

Cenac Jr. is a 6-foot-11, 240-pound forward. The 19-year-old averaged 9.5 points per game and 7.9 rebounds per game as a freshman for the Cougars last season.

After the Celtics’ pick, president of basketball operations Brad Stevens addressed the media. Stevens spoke about what Cenac Jr. will bring to the C’s, but the biggest takeaway from his press conference was his comments on Brown’s uncertain future with the organization.

Boston will pick again at No. 40 in the second round of the draft Wednesday night.
