SILVIS, Ill. (KWQC) – The John Deere Classic fun is now getting underway, but the heat isn’t stopping the fans.
Youth Day was Wednesday and there were plenty of activities to do including throwing a hat at a bullseye to try to win the hat, there was a crane machine, a whack-a-mole, golf simulator, and mini golf, providing many of good ways for kids to stay busy on the course.
But the best way to spend Youth Day was on the driving range at the swing clinic with Ben Griffin and Rickie Fowler and the Savannah Bananas.
It was golf vs. baseball on the range as the pros competed to break glass.
After all the glass was broken, it was time for the kids to have a dance party with the Savannah Bananas before grabbing autographs from each and every one of them out there.
Even though it was hot, it was a great day for the kids and the Bananas.
“We’ll play two sold-out games this weekend in front of 70,000 and it’s physically impossible to make an impact for each one of those fans there at the game, but you know… when things are slowed down and there’s less people, here on an event like today, it’s cool to take some time and really try and make an impact whether it’s through golf, whether it’s through baseball, whether it’s through just having a conversation,” said Kyle Luigs, Savannah Bananas Pitcher. “I think that we owe it to our younger selves because I remember the role models that we all used to have growing up and you wanted to have that second with them or you wanted to get an autograph from them or you wanted to get some of their gear if they had something to give away, and those are the shoes that we’re fortunate to be in now.”
After spending all day the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, the Savannah Bananas won’t be going too far as Friday and Saturday night they will be playing games at Kinnick Stadium.
As for at the golf course, Thursday morning tees off four days of tournament play.
