Joliet police are warning drivers in the area around the Chicagoland Speedway to be aware of increased traffic and temporary detours during the NASCAR events and race this Fourth of July weekend.

From Friday through Sunday, the area “will be heavily affected,” the Joliet Police Department posted on its Facebook page.

“If you’re attending, plan ahead and arrive early,” the police said in the post.

Motorists who are not attending are encouraged to seek alternate routes and allow extra travel time in the area.
