SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – The South Bend Men’s Metro golf tournament returns this weekend, with the first two rounds teeing off at Elbel Park Golf Course on Saturday and Sunday.
The field features more than 80 players competing across four flights, ranging from scratch golfers to players with higher handicaps.
Elbel head golf professional Jim Kubinski said the summer heat has affected how the course is playing.
“Well, normally our greens might be a little quicker, but with the heat, they’re not as fast,” Kubinski said. “Normally I would say keep the ball below the hole. Keep it on the front area of the green to putt up at the hole. But I think you can be a little more aggressive this weekend. Again, the greens will be a little softer. We had the water then. We can’t come quite as low with the heat. So I think you can be aggressive, drive the ball in play, hit it in the fairway as always, and then keep the ball under the hole. I think you can make some putts.”
Rounds three and four are scheduled for the following weekend at Erskine Park Golf Course.
