SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – The Coaches vs. Cancer Golf Classic was held Tuesday at Warren Golf Course on the University of Notre Dame’s campus, one day after the program’s Night of the Stars fundraiser.
Notre Dame head men’s basketball coach Micah Shrewsberry hosted the event.
“The event here is one of the largest in the country and one of the most successful in the country,” Shrewsberry said. “And that’s something that speaks a lot about our community. Speaks a lot about the people who are in our organizing committee and speaks to a lot of our sponsors that we have. It just continues to grow and grow and grow each year.”
Last year, the Night of the Stars fundraiser and the Golf Classic together raised $500,000 for the American Cancer Society. Over the past 25 years, the Notre Dame initiative has raised nearly $5 million for the organization.
Nationally, the Coaches vs. Cancer program has raised more than $196 million for the American Cancer Society since its founding in 1993.
Shrewsberry, who took over as Notre Dame’s head basketball coach in 2023, has continued to grow the program’s presence at the university.
“I’m not a doctor, I’m not a scientist,” Shrewsberry said. “There’s people that are really in the front lines of this fight. But all of the support that they can get to help them try and make a difference is what we’re trying to do.”
