Ohio police officers rescued an owl tangled in a soccer net using scissors after receiving a call for help
Bodycam footage captured the officers’ teamwork as they freed the unharmed owl, which flew away afterward
The Avon Police Department praised the officers for their service to both the community and local wildlife
A low-flying owl in Ohio found its way entangled in a soccer net.
Bodycam footage shared to Facebook shows an officer with the Avon Police Department using a pair of scissors to cut the owl free from the net after the department received a call about “an owl in need of assistance” on the morning of Sunday, July 19.
“Just another example of the outstanding service the members of the Avon Police Department provide every day — not only to our residents and visitors, but to our local wildlife as well,” the department captioned the short clip, adding, “Thanks to their quick actions and teamwork, the owl flew away unharmed.”

The department credited the rescue to Officer Steve Vogel and Officer David Orlando, who responded to the call and safely freed the owl from the net. In the video, the owl flies into the distance.
“Whether it’s answering calls for service, helping those in need, or even rescuing wildlife, our officers are always ready to serve,” the department wrote. “Great job, Officers Vogel and Orlando!”
Animals have a knack for finding themselves in precarious situations. Recently, a tiny hedgehog was rescued from a storm drain in Shropshire by a rescue crew.
Firefighters at Ellesmere Fire Station were mobilized to what they called a “small animal rescue” at 7:10 p.m. local time on a Friday, according to PEOPLE reporting.
Volunteers from Cuan Wildlife Rescue joined them on the scene. Crews used small tools to break through concrete, exposing the drain, before a spokesperson said they “released the wee hedgehog from its predicament” and handed it over to the care of the wildlife group.
It wasn’t the only animal saved in the area that day either. The same fire service also rescued three kittens from a derelict building in Wellington after they fell through the roof.
