RNAS Culdrose Football Club has been praised for its commitment to supporting the local community in West Cornwall and championing grassroots football.
The club was named FA Grassroots Club of the Year 2026 – County Winner for Cornwall at an awards event in Truro last week.
Outgoing chair Commander Andrew ‘Scooby’ Plenty said: “This award is given to the club that is making a difference in their communities and growing the game on behalf of the FA.
“It was fitting that Lt Cdr Terry Griffin, our current vice and youth chairperson – who has worked tirelessly over the past few seasons – was at the awards evening to receive the award. We had been shortlisted alongside two other clubs before being announced on the night.
“Personally, it is a wonderful way to bow out as chairperson as I am imminently handing over to Griff, and it is wonderful to know the club is in such safe hands moving forward.”

Cdr Plenty is due to take over as executive officer (second in command) of RNAS Culdrose, Helston, in the autumn.
This marks the sixth time the club has won the award or its predecessor, having previously been recognised in 2008, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
RNAS Culdrose said the achievement is the “culmination of much hard work and determination by the club’s volunteers, coaches and committee.”
