The nerves one experiences playing in an NFL game are no match to those felt when asking someone to marry you, according to Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert.
In the wake of his engagement to pop star Madison Beer, Herbert told reporters his proposal was “for sure” more nerve-wracking than making his first career NFL start.
Herbert went on to say he “thought about it a lot” when asked about the timing of the proposal to do it before the start of training camp.
Beer announced the couple’s engagement on Tuesday in a post on Instagram captioned, “Meet my fiancé.”
Herbert and Beer went public with their relationship shortly before the start of the 2025 NFL regular season.
They coupled traveled around Europe during the summer when she was on tour to promote her new album, then they attended a World Cup match between Team USA and Paraguay at the Chargers’ home, SoFi Stadium, on June 12.
Herbert famously made his first NFL start in Week 2 of the 2020 season after Tyrod Taylor was a late scratch due to a punctured lung from an injection by a team doctor.
After throwing for 311 yards in a 23-20 overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Herbert never relinquished the starting job. He owns a 52-43 record and has led the Chargers to the playoffs three times in six seasons.
